I have an N8 running Anna and I have no trouble whatsoever connecting to the Internet either through my service provider or via my WLAN. This happens automatically and uses the WLAN when at home, 100% of the time.
However, my son also an N8 running Anna, with as far as I can tell, exactly the same settings as mine but his will not connect automatically to either the Internet or our home WLAN.
He always receives the error message,
Conn.Failed
Conn. Unavailable
If he scans for WLAN and then selects our home WLAN, it connects and the internet works perfectly but it will not connect automatically.
Any help appreciated.

@wezzyd
Thanks for your suggestion but it is not that. The settings (and priorities) are exactly the same as in my own N8 as I stated in my original question.
I have since read another separate posting on this topic becuase it does seem to be a reasonably common error. One difference my son does have on his N8 to mine is that my N8 has a group for 'Internet', whereas his is 'Web'

Does anyone have any ideas on this problem please?

Have you tried deleting ALL access points and reconfiguring them ?

Try reset the setting to factory default too if all other mesaure failed. Of course you need do backup first.

@Netizen99
Thanks. I always steer clear of factory resets, unless of course it is just a factory reset for just the web browsing features?

@farby
Thanks. I have actually deleted all access points and then reconfigured them but one difference I have noticed between my N8 that works perfectly and my sons N8 that has the problem is that on mine, when selecting network destinations, I have 4 categories:
A plus sign to add new access point
Internet
WAP services
Intranet
on my sons he also has 4 categories which are the same except that he has;
Web (instead of Internet)
Could this be anything to do with it?

I realise a few weeks have gone by since this was last posted but I have a small update.
The Conn. Failed error message that used to occur when trying to acces the Internet has now gone away when using 3G but still rermains when trying to use Wi-Fi. This was solved by a call to Orange who enabled it for us.
There is not an option to set 'priorities' though within Destinations/uncategorised.
On my own N8 that works perfectly either on Wi-Fi or out and about using 3G, I have 3 options after selecting Destinations, namely:
- Internet
- WAP Services
- Intranet
On my sons phone, he only has 1 option, namely:
- uncategorised
How do I set it so that he has the 3 options (of which I only use Internet) but I can add new destinations and control priorities.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi all
This problem still exists.
Can anyone help please.
I am reposting this today because I have tried to add an email address to my son's N8.
On his phone, the only option listed is Mail for exchange, whereas on my N8 there are about 8 email options listed including gmail which is the one I want.
I wonder if these 2 problems are somehow connected.
A change to Belle is not an option. We don't want Belle - too many people have wondered how to go back to Anna for my liking but I would just like to get the same options on my son's N8 that I have on mine (also Anna)
Thanks

Which network is your son's handset on ? It sounds like he has network-branded firmware on his phone which has certain options locked out. How did his phone get Anna - out of the box or via upgrade ? If via upgrade, was it done OTA or with Nokia Suite ?

@93tid
Thank you for your reply.
My son's N8 is a monthly contract phone on Orange (same as mine)
I carried out his upgrade to Anna using Nokia suite (also same as mine)
That is really why I cannot understand why there are differences, because we are both with the same operator and I have updated both phones to Anna.

What are the product codes of your phones ? The information comes up when you dial *#0000# on the dialpad.

I have just checked.
The product codes are the same, both 059C9F6

That seems correct - 059C9F6: N8-00 RM-596 Orange UK GB S3.1 V3 Dark Grey
Unfortunately Nokia Suite will not let you reinstall Anna, which is what I would have suggested in this case. It can be done, however cannot be discussed any further in this forum.
There is a chance a hard reset might solve it, although I understand you'd rather not do that.

In your post above this one you state that your son's phone also has these options except Internet is called Web. Is that correct ? What do you do on the phone before they disappeared ?

@93tid
That's a good point regarding the fact that I previously stated my son had 3 options as well.
I need to check that again but cannot do it now until tomorrow (Fri, hopefully)
Thanks

@93tid
I have just checked my son's N8 and he only has 1 option when selecting destinations.
It is called 'uncategorised'.
Unfortunately, I cannot recall the circumstances that caused only having 1 option, when previously he had the same as me albeit, with a diiferent label for one of them. Maybe it was caused by me deleting them and then when I added a new one, it defaults to the name 'uncategorised'.
I am pretty sure that if I could get his phone to show the same options as mine, or at least just one called 'Internet' when selecting destinations, that the whole problem would be solved, because the internet option has always allowed me to add access points and determine the priorities and that is what is missing on my son's N8.
My N8 works absolutely faultlessly switching to my Home WLAN whenever it is within range or Orange Web when neither my WLAN or the 2 others I have programmed in are available. I just want my son's N8 to be the same.
Thanks for your continued support.

Have you tried requesting all settings to be sent again to the handset ? You should be able to do it online from here: http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal

@93tid
No I haven't tried that. I was not aware of that link.
I did contact orange a couple of months ago and they sent something to the phone that appeared to remove the problem he had using the internet because that used to give the same Conn. Failed error message.
I will try that link hopefully later today when I can get hold of the phone.
Worth a go!
Thanks
