hi,

a few sellers have given me the IMEIs of the N80s that they are selling, previously i called up a shop and checked if it was a genuine, nokia IMEI, but the shop is now closed, and i need this IMEI verified soon!!

Is there a means through the nokia website or somehow to check the IMEI is valid?
my phones in order of appearance : (starting 3 years ago!) Sony CMD-Z1 plus, Motorola timeport, Nokia 3310, Nokia 3410, Sony Ericsson T300, Sharp GX10i, Sharp GX30i, Sagem My-X-2, Sony Ericsson V800, Sony Ericsson P900, Samsung D500, Sharp 902, Nokia N80 (got mugged by 4 20 year olds). Motorola V3, Sony Ericsson K610i, Samsung D800, LG Chocolate, Nokia N70!

I change phones a lot, have had 11 different handsets in 2006!!

I posted something about checking to see whether handsets had been blocked/blacklisted from the IMEI's earlier in the week:

Don't know whether that's any good for you, they won't be able to tell you if it's a genuine Nokia, but it might be a bit more peace of mind... maybe lol

found a site that decodes IMEI codes and **bleep**, and it came up with this :


Mobile equipment brand / model: Nokia N80
GSM Implementation Phase: 2/2+
IMEI range issued by British Approvals Board of Telecommunications (BABT)
Reporting Body location: Europe

Do you think that means its a genuine nokia? due to the european location

I would not like to say 100% but if http://www.babt.com/default.asp is in there its looking good...

I don't know about the IMEI valid bit, but checkmend.org allow you to check if a phone has been reported stolen.

They charge £1 for each search of an IMEI no. you do.

unless youre buying from a very trustable source-Call the networks to check if the IMEI has been reported - also -do not rule out the possibility of the person who sells you the second hand unit will not report it lost or stolen at a later date. You take the risk!

ive already ordered a brand new one so MEH! should eb here tomorrow!
