Having same problem here.
Bought my N8 in Egypt about a week ago.. After 2 days, I woke up to found the phone switched off, and NOTHING works.. I tried the long button reboot, charging with normal adapter, charging with USB adapter and simply nothing works.
Then I went to Nokia care the next day, they tried plugging in the USB charger and it worked like MAGIC ! it started charging and it was fine..
Then now after about a week, it's DEAD again.. nothing working, no USB no hard reset, nothing..
I'm going to ask for a replacement aswell.. Seeing all those complaints I'm sure something is wrong with this cell phone.. I'm really dissappointed.

I have been to Nokia service and came to a conclusion: there are major flaws in N8 period!
My long time faith in Nokia and Sony Erricsson phones have largely eroded after sitting through a session of testing the much raved about HTCs.

I bought my N8 in Spain and it turns off alone every days. It´s the same if I´m talking, using the web browser or playing. The N8 turns off alone!!!! NOKIA WAKE UP for an update for this software as soon as possible!!!! By the way, no application to watch USTREAM videos??? Is thisone the great N8 ???? UNACCEPTABLE ![]()

Had mine for 1 weeks. Had various restarting and sudden shutdown issues, then it was dead after opening Top Apps and would not turn on. Battery was fully charged each and every time.

If the device doesn't switch on, the device should be taken to Nokia care point for repair. Before doing this, it's worth trying the following actions:
If the device still cannot be switched on or charged, it's best to take it to Nokia care point for repair.

from what I've observed, it's about 5%~6% for the dead N8 issue, because from a total of 106 users from our forum http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1639470 there's 6 ppls affected by the dead N8 issues...

Hey,
I have had the same issue. From Australia, bought from mobicity, received first one, went dead in under 48 hours. Contacted aussiewarranty, issued me a new N8 shipped from Hong Kong; just under 72 hours, spontaneous restarts and turning off. Sent back to aussiewarranty and awaiting to see what there decision is. As they say...third times a charm.

Had my n8 for a week. In this time it locked up 4 times and the last 1 required a hard reset!!!! Now it does not have ovi maps, ovi store and various other bits...... So I call the care line and they tell me to send it back. Not happy

I bought my N8 silver on the 14th October at Samrat Mobiles (Nokia Priority Show Room at Madhapur, Hyderabad) and started enjoying the functions. After a week it started behaving oddly by switching off frequently. Finally on 23rd October it went completely dead. I reported to Nokia Care and after a lengthy 'friendly' discussion they suggested me to go the Nokia Priority dealer. And I went but they were very reluctant to replace the piece instead they were suggesting me to go back to Nokia Care... After making them understand in local language they finally budged and replaced in couple of hours.
Now my new dark gray piece is working fine so far. I have installed several applications, games and it is going fine.
Hopefully it will continue to work that way. But after such a long wait since April getting such a piece is quite disappointing... NOKIA please don't loose your staunch supporters. I have been using NOKIA since last 12 years. So something and QUICK.

The press is slowly picking this up :

Also Dutch press.
Nokia should really put out a press release. But I think it will not come. Bad for business.

I bought my N8 November 3rd in Amsterdam and it has been working fine for 2 weeks but november 16th I experienced the first freezes. It has been doingt is since, and I can't find any really problem working with the phone.
My freeces mostly take place when my phone is locked and the screen is off. Today, I experienced a couple of white screens (reboots or so???). Luckely I was possible to turn the phone on again after a couple of tries.......

You should replace your unit while you still can !! It's defective.

Hey
Same problem here i live in finland i bought my N8 about 2 weeks ago. On the next day it started to acting up couple reboots nothing that serious but then it went black didnt do anything well i took it back to the shop and they send it to repairs well week went past it came back and the repair center didnt find any problem with it. Well on the same day when i picked up and went home it did it again so i just left it on the table on the next morning it came alive ok so i used it again surfing in internet, used ovi store etc. then it died again so i left it on the table for 3 whole days nothing so i read about the "put it in the fridge" comment (i didnt put my phone to the fridge
) instead i went out (5-10mins)put my phone to my jacket pocket(its about -3 degrees celsius in finland) came back inside boom it worked so i tested that i putted it in my pocket for a while iam inside where it is like +20 celcius went black again when i cooled it of in my window it worked again well i took it back to shop and they send it to repair center again hopefully they will notice this minor heat issue. I think theres some faulty chip that turns the phone off to protect it from overheating but when the overheating occurs when the phone gets pocket/hand warm that might be a problem
(have tried soft and hard reset they didnt work and i used the phone without a sim card didnt work just to clear few things and i didnt warm it straight away to +25 just to clear that up also)

My nate is dead.
After day 28.
It's now in the NCC
Where support's lousy.
Does not pick up calls during day time.
They'll only answer after 7 pm.
Was told that the motherboard needs replacement.
Seriously, for a 4 week old phone, it's an amazement
Will take 2 weeks for the arrival of the part
Is the waiting worth my ounce of salt?
Over here no product replacement policy
Unlike practiced in some other country(ies)
So here I am feeling sick
stuck with my kid's 3120 classic
