I might try this hoping it might fix a few other serious issues which I can also throw into the complaint.

You have told me in other posts that you have not taken your phone into Nokia nor elevated it higher in Nokia. That because you do not like the look of the people in your nearest care centre and because you place weight on what you read on forums as to the experience of others with respect to repair experiences (in which case I suggest that you have very little experience of the reliability of what you read on forums :smileyhappy:).

What do you think the consumer regulator is going to say when you tell them that you have not even approached the supplier of your phone in order to get them to remedy the problems you claim to have? Until you allow the supplier to attempt to remedy the phone's issues you are the problem, not the supplier of the phone.

What do you think they will think of you if they become aware that as well as your not even trying to allow the supplier to remedy your phone's problems (if any) you have instead been spending each day in front of a keyboard very publically complaining in a manner critical of the supplier?

Re: N8/C7 PURPLE SCREEN ISSUE AND HOW TO SPOT IF YOU HAVE IT PLEASE READ

I dont want a repaired phone. My phone was faulty during it's manufacture, which Nokia have admitted. Purple tint is the least of my issues actually. This sort of thing should be spotted during quality testing, but yet Nokia are still churning them out to unsuspecting people who have put their trust in the Nokia brand. How many people have we read about on here who went for weeks without their phones only to find their phone still has purple tint, plus the addition of dirty glass underneith, screws missing, covers not fitting together properly, etc. I'm not risking that. I've already printed out these horror stories incase I need to take any action to REPLACE my phone with a BRAND NEW one. I wouldn't accept anything else and I dont see why I or anyone else should have to do so.

I've waited patiently since I got my phone in the hope of a software fix to all my phone's internal issues, and I'm still waiting, even though the head of the company informed us that existing owners would get a major firmware update BY the end of August.. well there's 3 weeks of waiting left, assuming they meant in the year 2011, but I'm sure in 3 months we'll still be here, but by then warranties will be begin to expire and that will be the end of it.

You are so closed minded about this that you did not understand what I am saying.

If you think the only reasonable solution is for your phone to be replaced, or indeed whatever solution it turns out that you may end up being prepared to accept, you have as I said to give the supplier of it the opportunity to do so. Until you do that, and I don't think you have indicated here that you have, then you are the problem.

All consumer protection law that I am familiar with requires you to engage with and try and resolve the issue with the supplier first. Consumer legisaltion is not a free service to resolve consumer issues on their behalf, it is there to determine who is correct after an issue arises which the consumer and the supplier have not been able to resolve between themselves.

But you seem to be dertermined that all you want to do is complain to everyone but the supplier. Maybe that is what your only objective is as that suits your personality type or because you delude yourself that the billions of customers or potential customers of the supplier will care or even know. So, with that I'll leave you to your troubles.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OH GOOD GRIEF

My new N8 arrived.

IT HAS THE PURPLE/RED SCREEN ISSUE!!!

For goodness sake. My old one was fine, and despite being repeatedly assured the issue was fixed, I get one with it.

In fairness, it's not quite as bad as others have demonstrated - the grey gradiant image seems mostly fine, but the set of boxes image seems to flick between red and purple.

There is talk I've seen online that the PR2.0 update fixes is, people using hacked firmware saying since they installed the update the problem went away.

This is UNTRUE.

My N8 has PR2.0 on it and it has the issue.

Actually I feel I should add to this in fairness.

Having looked at some of the photo examples of other people's phones with this issue, I should say it is nowhere near as bad on my phone.

The greyscale image shows a slight purple/red band near the bottom

The boxes image shows some of them being a bit towards purple - weirdly this switches towards red when the screen dims.

I think that is where the real problem is... The 'level of purple' might not be a huge problem, if we don't see this 'band' in an image which is supposed to have a smooth transition. This is what causes movies to appear blotched... In areas of a movie/pic where adjacent pixels have a slight difference in color (gradient), the entire area appears in one color... causing a "patch"...

So, personally, I wouldn't be too happy that the level of purple is minimal... The screen is defective even if it shows the slightest of purple tint, IMHO...

As far as I'm concerned, I've learned to live with it... Other than this issue, I simply love this device :smileywink:

Arshad

@ Arshad:

For clarification, as I never really tested this properly on my original early N8:

Is the purple screen a problem on ALL N8s, just that it is PARTICULARLY bad on the second generation models?

For starters, I'm no expert :smileyhappy:

But just for the record, all N8s that I've laid my hands on have this issue... That doesn’t mean anything, since quite a few even in this forum have said that they have received defect free N8s out of the box...

And just to fill you in on what has been going on so far in this forum...

Initially the mods very really trying their best to help us solve this issue... However, they kept insisting that a slight amount of purple is acceptable. And then some of us indicated that even the slightest tint of purple is a sign of a defective screen, where you'd see blotches in movies/pic... and only 'purple-free' screens seem to produce good imaging. We asked them to confirm if Nokia still accepts the theory of "varying amounts of purple"...

This is when things started to go quite...

So from what I gathered, there are quite a number of good quality screens out there... but the ones even with a slightest purple tint is defective. In other words, you have good displays, and screens with varying amounts of "defectiveness" :smileywink:

And I keep stressing that this is from my perspective only... just a layman’s POV.

And as I even mentioned earlier, I've learned to live with it... it not as if I'm using my phone to watch movies 24X7... And mind you, video clips shot in bright light look stunning even on defective displays...

As a Sri Lankan, there are many more serious things we compromise in life than a slightly defective display... :smileywink: We are used to accepting this kinda stuff... :smileyhappy:

Arshad

This is very true, even on my very badly affected C7 the image quality of bright images and video is quite incredible. I can say this with full certainty because I have access to a pair of C7 phones, one with very bad purple tint and one without the slightest tint. The display of bright images on the phone without purple tint has nothing like the same overall image quality, in terms of brightness, contrast and colour correctness. I still think either Nokia or the manufacturers of these displays have made some kind of tweak to make later models look better on bright images but failed to notice the problem they introduced to darker images/video by doing so.

I saw a brand new X7 of my friend. Though it is the similar AMOLED with nHD (only difference its a bit larger), it doesnt has the purple tint. Thus i am being confused as i am finding two parallel answers for my question that ''Does symbian Anna solves purple tint?''

Can anyone help me?

I'm hoping it does. I believe purple tint is everything to do with these displays being as susceptible as any other type of display to incorrect calibration. There's every hope that new firmware may be able to implement any needed corrections.

X7 never had the purple tint issue, so whether it runs Symbian Anna or not is totally irrelevant.

"only a bit larger" makes it a completely different screen from the ones used in the N8 and C7.

As clearly demonstrated only a few posts higher up on this very page - /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-C7-PURPLE-SCREEN-ISSUE-AND-HOW-TO-SPOT-IF-YOU-HAVE-IT-PLEASE/m-p/... - there is absolutely no reason to expect that any software changes can fix this issue, which has been identified as a strictly hardware defect very clearly from the very beginning even by Nokia themselves.

The tint can only be tweaked to seem slightly less visible and intrusive at the expense of the screen operating at very high brightness levels at all time, but it cannot be resolved completely in this manner. That, plus a hefty dose of wishful thinking, is the source of the few reports of the tint issue being fixed by Anna or other custom firmware.

The purple tint is a hardware issue related to the screens of a small proportion of the N8 and C7 devices sold, users who have it need to refer to their local Nokia Care point.

Don't worry, if you do not have the issue, you are not going to "catch it" from a software update. Your software version has no effect on this.

Michaels, how is that Nokia have admitted that this problem is a hardware issue, and yet most people on this forum who have taken your advice and have taken their phones to a Nokia Care point, have ended up having their screens replaced with another purple tinted display?

Is it any wonder that we end up losing our trust in such situations?
