N8 FM Transmitter Signal Strenght

[ Edited ]

I tried using my N8's FM transmitter in the car and the signal is very weak. Infact when the handset is in the car no signal is received. In order to get any sort of respectable audio coming out of the car's stereo I have to stand out of the car and hold the handset next to the antena. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Yeh-it's way toooooo weak. I tried sony ericsson transmitter and sound from radio was clear within 5 meters from antenna (even trough brick and wood wall) - Nokia N8 cant even handle 1 meter... and sound quality is terrible-static........

Try a different frequency

I have no problems with mine, works fine in the car and gives 5-10m range

I have to admit, it's not quite as good as in the N86.  But as long as I have it in near the central console of the radio, it works OK.  In some cars it works even better.  I suppose it depends on where the antenna is located.

Hi, keep in mind that the key here is to find the best frequency to transmit on. You don't want to use the same frequency that one of the strongest radio stations operates on in your area. I had the same problem. Use this web tool to find vacant frequency based on your location: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/vacant

also chose a higher frequency, generaly these ones at 10x.x work better than the ones at 8x.x

And if you have an in-car charger, plug it in to the phone, it often improves the antenna perforance.

i had the same problem but i then changed the antenna of my car.you may try it also.after replacing the old antenna by a new one,the signals were being received just fine.the normal signal range of the n8 fm transmitter is usually 6 ft. (2m).

Re: N8 FM Transmitter Signal Strenght

I also noticed that depends on the car antenna (or head-unit sensitivity) when renting different car models. On some cars I have noise/hiss even when I put N8 on a windscreen phone holder near 30 cm to antenna. On other cars I get strong signal if I have the N8 on the passenger seat or even under the middle console. And if I have in the area another FM transmitter(the type put in the lighter) it clearly emits over the N8 if on the same frequency set. What I like is that on FM it transmits song name (but no artist name... sadly) BUT... only if you have a head-unit which allow to change info on display, otherwise you see only NOKIA.
