N8 battey life sucks!

[ Edited ]

hi, I just wanna say to NOKIA guys that NOKIA N8-00 battery is a piece of
They said to me that battery will hold for 3-5 days but this is a LIE!
NOT EVEN 24 HOURS!

at the beginning, I was thinking "ok... maybe it's a battery failure" so, I give it to Nokia customer care and they told me that battery is ok, charging system is ok, mainboard is ok, the only problem was
symbian OS, they told that they did the update to symbian ANNA and now it will be ok.

, my N8 is not only slower but also battery life has decreased a lot.

I am not using flash
no GPS
no 3g (only GSM),
lowest screen brightness,
lowest light time-out,
No bluetooth enabled neither Wifi,
empty (black) wallpapers,
always to battery-saving mode
voice calls only 2 hours MAX PER DAY!
and still, this stupid device power consumption is sooo high.

what is happening? why are you lying to your customers?
I am very disappointed.

What apps do you have installed on your N8?

There are certain apps that will load on start up and hang around in the background and not be shown on the open application list.

Maybe it's worth installing a programme like 'App stop' from the Nokia Store

http://store.ovi.com/content/92945?clickSource=search&pos=1

It will show you what background programmes are running and give you the option to terminate them.

Also using a large amount of widgets etc will also have a negative impact on battery life.

What about your signal? If you are in an area of poor signal then your phone will use more battery power.

To be honest though, judging by you post it looks as if you should be getting far more than under 24 hours use out of your phone.

I use my N8 fairly heavily and I get around 1.5 to 2 days use. I think you should take it back to the Nokia Care point.

Hope this is of help.

Hi,

Like bassmantrb5ii I'd expect you to get a couple of days with your usage though signal strength will have an effect.

3 - 5 days on an N8 would really be pushing it, you would have to have everything turned off and may as well have a "dumb" phone.

Try installing one of the Battery Monitors from Nokia Store to see what is using up your charge.

Re: N8 battery life sucks!

I have done a hard reset to clean out my phone.

Now i'll try again.

my signal reception is excellent. full signal everywhere.

also, the only app that i have installed was the beta camera update from nokia betalabs. nothing else.

My device is brand new. only 22 days old....

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

Hopefully this should help your battery life. I would recommend that you hold off installing any apps until you've tested the battery life ne one or two full cycles, then install them one by one just incase they could've been the cause.

I'm sure I read somewhere about people having issues with the camera app because it was keeping the camera on standby and not shutting it down, hence the reduced battery life. Can't find the article though, so maybe getting mixed up with another app. Hope you the reset has sorted everything out.

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

2 weeks test after resetting the phone to factory settings.
Not big improvement.... 2 days of battery life....
I am disappointed....

If i enable power saving mode the battery last 2.5 - 3 days but the phone is very luggy and slow all the time. Also, the reception is not good and internet is very very very slow (power saving on)

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

2 days use is about right. I get around 1.5-2 days as I posted before.

This kind of battery life is about right for a smartphone like the N8. If you think this is bad then you'll be horrified to hear about some of the android phones which can't even get through a full day without needing to be charged.

What you need to remember is that these 'phones' are in effect mobile communicating computers and consume a larger amount of power than a 3110 for instance.

Personally, I would accept that your phone will last a few days between charges and use it like you want to and enjoy it.

I hope this is of help.

With power saving mode activated 3G (HSDPA) is deactivated, hence the slow internet speed.

As already mentioned, two days use between charges is good for any modern(ish) smartphone.

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

ok guys, thank you. just complain because before i buy this phonei have read all the technical details on Nokia's page and the battery life was about 3-5 days depending of the use.

the minimum was 3 days and it should last for 4 days like my previus smartphone.

i am not using N8 for many things.

only for:

daylight photos (without flash) 3-6 photos per day

3G internet (only for my e-mails) 2-10 mins per day

and the maximum 2 hours for talking (simple voice call, no video call)

No sms, no GPS, no games, no widgets, blank screensaver/wallpaper, wifi scanning off, no bluetooth....

anyway.... i'll wait for symbian belle before i give it to my nice as a gift!

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

Long gone are the days of the smartphone with 3-4 days of battery life.

The battery life numbers are for standby mode, i.e. the phone being switched on and doing nothing.

You will not find a current smartphone which can last any longer than 2 days, even with your use, so maybe you should think seriously before giving it away.

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

As 93tid says, the days of smartphones lasting 3-4 days are gone. 2 days is average.

There are plenty of Android users who would very jealous of you getting 2 days out of your phone.

As I said before, modern phones are more like portable computers that mobile phones, hence the limited battery life.

I don't see what giving your phone away is going to acheive, any subsequent modern smartphone you buy will give similar battery life.

Accept that your phone will need charging every few days and I'm sure you'll learn to adapt.

There you have it.  You said you use the camera and Internet.  If you have used Nokia's Battery Monitor app, you will find out the the camera is the biggest battery user of all.  Next is GPS and then Wifi.

Just do what I did.  I bought an external 2000 mAh battery for days when I'm not close to an outlet or car.  I also keep a car charger inside my car.  An AC adapter in my office and at home.  So I'm pretty much covered wherever I go.

I also installed Nokia's Energy Profiler app to find out my phone's baseline power consumption.  Mine is like 0.40W (average) after bootup and then with that power reading the app tells me how much my battery will last in hours.

I also installed Taskman app to find out which apps are currently open on my phone.

I usually charge my phone once or twice a day.  But I'm a heavy user.  I browse the Internet a lot.  My phone's brightness is set at 75 percent.  Basically I'm using it as my personal computer.  I keep most of the apps I'm using open like Opera Mobile, Adobe Reader, Music Player, Fring, +J for S60, and Remoter.  When I'm low on RAM, I usually close Opera Mobile.  I find that Opera Mobile uses the most RAM out of all my installed apps.

Hope that gives you some idea.

Slight correction. I regularly get three days use from my Samsung Galaxy S. It's just a case of configuring the phone correctly to preserve battery life by turning off un-needed functions that drain the battery in the background.

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

You should be getting 48 hours out of it.

I get close to that on normal use with Swype, 3 RSS feeds/widgets, Whatsapp and

But this phone is second hand so the battery maybe not that good.

It would be great if we could buy LiFePo4 batteries in the form of a BL-4D

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

I have my N8 for 3 months. I am running Battery extender and do pay attention to open apps and other power draining conditions. On a full charge, I do get 3 days maybe more, however as with phone, long calls, message receipt/displays, and call activity in general will cause need for a charge sooner. I believe the N8 is better than iPhone in terms of charge and talk time...however given a LION battery which is better to charge frequently before the charge is fully drained to get the most life...perhaps habits have to change!

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

I use my Nokia N8 and the battery never hold more than 8 hours.
So i always charge it for 2-3 times per day.
Is very awfull to wait 1-2 hours until the battery is charged.
Someone must inform the Nokia developing team to built 3.600mAh batteries.
I cant find any symbian phone with 3-4Ah high capacity battery.

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

The best thing you can do for yourself, and your phone, is to activate power saving. I think it's better to be connected, with limits, for +8 hours than to be fully functional for 2-3 hours..

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

pavlaras1, you keep telling Nokia to develop better batteries but it should be obvious that N8 is not getting any new battery technology update being a 2 year old model. I don't think the competitions 2 year old phones last any better.

My N8 is over a year old running the original battery. I get easily 3 days of normal usage before recharge. If I do heavy gaming (read: Angry Birds) the battery of course lasts a day or so. If you have disabled bluetooth, wifi, onscreen widgets that do online updates, you should easily get 2-3 days worth of battery in one recharge. If you are using non-nokia chargers, they are bad and don't charge the phone fully. Also if you are running stuff continuously in the background, it will drain battery faster. Hold the hard key 1-2s and remove all background apps you don't need. If that doesn't help, your battery is obviously poor from the get go and you should replace it.

Re: N8 battey life sucks!

I already did all the things you said.
I am never use background applications and i foot have on screen widgets.
I use lot of wifi and Bluetooth.
I speak on the phone for more than 4 hours and i use to phones N8 and 701.
701 is a bit better but still they need better batteries both of this get empty in less of 8 hours and i use extra batteries and chargers.
