I have always been a Nokia fan . I started with Nokia 6600, then N70, then N82 and now a Nokia N8.
However, I am facing the worst experience with N8 reception issues.
The problems faced are as under :
1) Poor Signal Reception Issues - Signal strength is weak and is constantly fluctuating compared to other Nokia Phones. At my workplace, if Nokia N82 displays 5 bars, N8 would display only 1 or 2 bars.
2) Phone freezes many times. Whenever an Alarm is enabled, phone freezed much more.
3) Purple Tint in the display. Nokia Service Centre says that its normal but according to me, they are just ignoring this issue.
4) Vibration is weak : I often do not realize when the phone is vibrating in my pocket !!
Upcoming Symbian Anna will just improve the user interface but will not be able to solve these hardware issues.
If Nokia plans a hardware update facility for N8 users wherein they can fix the signal reception issues and increase the RAM to 1 GB atleast, I would retain this phone for few years.
But, now, I intend to switch to Samsung Galaxy S II.

"1: signal strength varies by many factors. buildings around the area you are, if you are in a house or on the roof or in a meadow"
The OP is saying that in exactly the same place, signal strength is much weaker on his N8 than on a different Nokia phone. That is nothing to do with his location therefore!?!
I have found a similar thing, with an old 3310 having full reception and my N8 only having 1 or 2 bars at the same time. Really poor for a flagship model costing ~£300. ![]()

This is definitely true, my N95 had no problems with signal indoors, I could roam freely around my home and the call would stay connected, now with the N8 I have to sit at the window in a particular room to get a solid call.

Hi,
Please do check that the N8 is set to "dual network".
After my N8 update to Anna, the phone had reset itself to only GSM.....

Different phones receive reception differently.
Contact your service provider if problems persist. It's normal to receive poor reception inside your house.

I have a different view here. I notice if I set to "dual" and if the 3G network is available BUT weak, I got low signal strenght on my N8. Switching to GSM solved the problem. I think may be GSM signal is always stronger than 3G and that's what happening.

I am agree with poor signal issue with nokia N8. I have two cell with one is N8 and other one is N26 with nearly 4.5 year old but at same place Nokia N8 showing very poor quality of network signal compared to N26. So for same network provider with two different cell with same manufacture how can drastic different that is also investing nearly RS.22000!
Please resolve the issue ASAP.

Lets start with 5 bars not being an comparable measurement, what one phone reports as 5 bars another may report as 3
Then we have the issue of different networks,
a phone will always try to hang onto the best quality network even if the signal strength is lower, ie if you are in an area with perfect 2G signal, but there is a 1-2 bar 3G or 3.5G the phone will hang onto the 3G as generally 1-2 bars of this is better than full 2G

In my N8, a lot of issues just kept popping post-anna upgrade. There are a lot of discussions regarding the battery drain but I don't see many with regards to lose of signal.
I have T-mobile USA and have noticed lately that I suddenly don't have an active signal *eventhough* the phone's signal indicator is at full strength. I had to frequently check my phone to see if I can make a call. It seems switching the phone's connectivity to 3G (vs Dual) does the trick but not all the time. Does anybody have a similar experience? Sometimes toggling powersave causes this issue as well.

I have exact the same problem on my N8, so I update the soft to latest ANNA OS, The purple tin dissapear but the freez is still on. I can restet the phon every 5 minutes.
For the 2-d time is in the service. 1-st time they change the display, dont work.
I think is the soft because it is freez but if somebody call me is ringing but Ican push the answere button.
Nokia Fail again.
My phon is always in service...too bad

I have been facing signal problem as well.. Compare to my old N97 the signal is my weaker on N8 at times.. It seems like a lot more after Anna than before.. You know what, I hate apple but at least when their customers complain about something(such as recent battery issue) they address the situation(not right away but eventually).. They even released a patch for battery issue, doesn't matter if it was helpful or not, it shows at least they listen.. What do we get from Nokia when we bring up solid issues with our phones??? umm Nothing!! We Get Elop going on different shows talk about WP.. It be nice if they show they still care..
OH well guess we all use to this huh? lol...

Getting a new replacement SIM from T-Mobile US has resolved this problem for some users, may be worth trying.
