Got this phone in August, and it is excellent, although it does keep switching off randomly. I can be mid-conversation, with my date of confinement being in 7 days, I'm worried that this will let me down.

Use Nokia Software Updater (NSU) to update the phone software (firmware) in case that fixes the problem:
