I'm from Brazil and I'm with the same problem, my SMS some times don't goes and some times goes, but my phone show me that goes to other person and the SMS added a message (that I was sent in past). I called to Nokia, they told me to search a technical assistance, that's ridiculous, because problem it's software and the fault is of Nokia, they should resolved.
Sorry for my English.
I have found a solution that worked for me (Nokia E7 [might work for similar smartphones]):
-Connect phone to computer via USB.
-Open up the latest nokia suite.
-BACKUP EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE!!!
+Doesn't matter how advanced you are at doing this sort of stuff, we all make mistakes, better safe than sorry!
-Sync your messages.
+May take a while to do this, be patient, it's worth it in the end!
-In the bottom left corner of your screen you'll see "Messages in E7-00" or something similar depending on the phone.
-In the middle of the screen appears all the messages on your phone.
-Left click any message, then press CTRL+A (hold the ctrl button on the bottom left of your keyboard and press the 'A' key).
-Press the delete button on your keyboard (top right of the keyboard, before the number pad).
+This will take a while (dependent upon the amount of texts on your phone).
If this doesn't work, then i'm sorry for the false hope. It did, however work for me. I believe it's got something to do with a dodgey cache coding, Nokia just aren't able to figure out how to do an update without wiping the phone first. Would we have Nokia any other way?! I quite like that you can do this sort of stuff with a phone still.
It could be network - or an incompatibility between the device and the network.
Either way, definitely not good.
Here's hoping that some bug fixes will come along soon.
Glad to know I am not the only one with this really annoying problem BUT I have no idea what this solution is/means and would really like to text message again soon without all the hassles! Can anyone give me step by step instructions please!!!!!
Same Gauray. - Nokia needs to hurry up and make an software update to fix this problem - I want to keep some old messages and not delete them.
This is very frustrating. I have always gone with Nokia since they started out with the bricks that could only hold 16 sms messages maximum. But this is the final straw. Next phone will be an Iphone unfotunately. I hate apple, but I see so many others able to use their phone quickly and access all of their email accounts on those yet I seem to have trouble setting up my work email to my phone where others at my work don't with their Iphones.
Fed up Nokia. Get on the front foot and fix the problem that you have caused your customers.
Very disappointed and I don't think I'm willing to give Nokia a second chance
Firstly, thank goodness other people are having this problem and secondly, I can't believe that it's gone on for so long without some input from Nokia. I understand that there may be some software issues but if this is the customer service, I'm seriously considering going elsewhere.
I've contacted Nokia Support on this problem and despite this issue i was told ..
"Please do note that other users who updated to Nokia Belle did not experience issues with their previous saved SMS, this is an isolated case."
"Those are not common issues with the Nokia Belle update which is probably the reason why they are not outlined anywhere."
It appears I'm not going to be able to keep some of my old messages on my phone - will have to try post 10 and see if that works. Can't believe Nokia aren't all over this issue. Should be better care than this.

Just had it (again). It's the second time that I noticed this and I only recently updated to Belle.
Just now in Conversation mode it happened that the message was sent to another number than I replied to. In the conversation window afterwards I see that the message is sent to anohter person --AND-- another message is attached to the message that I just typed.
Just a guess... looks like the reply message gets an existing message ID or something like that, and that the message is sent to the receiver of the other message with the same ID ... and that message is included.
Note that I have changed the typing language during replying.
@ExNokiaFan: Where to add the "me too" in your support case?
I have checked with the recipents. It is not just stored in the wrong conversation, the messages are really sent to the wrong receiver!
I've just done a hard reset on my phone now I can't get the ovi store and therefore can't download the apps I've paid for! As soon as the contract is up... NEVER AGAIN NOKIA!!!!! I'm going to Samsung.
To all suffering this bug, I can confirm that the information provided in posts 8 and 10 works. I started the thread ans since performing the solutiion everything has worked perfectly since. The quick way involves hacking the phone and you don't lose any data, except your txts. Invalidates warranty as well.
The slow way is a full reset.....
Same fault on both my girlfriends n8 and my n8.
Connected phone to computer using 'mass storage' mode instead of 'nokia ovi suite' mode and was able to see all the folders including 'private' and all its sub-folders. Could not find the folder '1000484b' though.
Aaaarrrggghhh!!!!! If I just knew what to delete!
Can anyone who knows more than I let us know if this 'mass storage' mode may help us locate the offending folder(s).
