Nokia Browser and Maps connection method (Nokia 700)

Hello

My question is about the way the default web browser connects to the internet (NokiaBrowser 8.3.2.21 on nokia 700,  113.010.1506 (Belle FP2))

The default way for applications to connect to the internet is via the "network destinations" in which mobile network or WLAN are registered with a priority number: the highest available priority will determine the connection to be used, provided the "Mobile data" or "Wi-Fi" switches are enabled.

This is convenient and it is the way I wish all applications to behave.

Unfortunately, some applications seems not to use this concept of "network destinations" (i.e. set of access points ordered by priority) such as the nokia browser, which only allows a specific access point to be chosen (mobile data or wlan), or a "ask when needed" option.

This is annoying because I don't want to choose the connection every time I open the browser, and I don't want to change the settings of the browser every time I want to switch to a WLAN.

Another application with a different problem is Nokia Maps (v3.09). In the settings of this application, the concept of "network destinations" seems to be used since it allows to choose one "network destination".

But the problem is that if the Wi-Fi switch is enabled (and Mobile data is disabled) and a registered Wi-Fi is available (in range), the application will NOT trigger the connection to this Wi-Fi and instead complain with the  "Mobile data off , no connection available" popup. Which is surprising. However, if I manually connect to this registered Wi-Fi and then I start Nokia Maps, then it connects correctly to this Wi-Fi.

This problem is also annoying because I don't want to have to manually connect to the wifi before starting Nokia Maps every time.

I don't know which part of the software is involved but the system should detect which Wi-Fi are in range and check if some of them are registered in the  "network destination" in use, and trigger the connection if this is the case.

Do some other people have the same problems? Is there something wrong in my settings?

Any answer or clue would be greatly appreciated !

Thank you!

François

Does it make any difference if you have either Weather, forecast or Weather, now widget upon homescreen in "Online mode"? I have Mobile data = Off with WLAN = Priority 1 in Internet destinations and 700 Belle FP2 seems to get location via WiFi/Network positioning method on starting device without any connection error.

Re: Nokia Browser and Maps connection method (Nokia 700)

Thank you aspergerguy,

I tried both widgets on my homescreen in online mode, wifi = on , mobile data = off , and the widgets dsplay "no data connection" and the popup "Mobile data off , no connection available" shows up on widget loading.

Several registered wifi networks are in range but it does not even try to connect to any of them..

Re: Nokia Browser and Maps connection method (Nokia 700)

Is there something wrong in my connection settings? I looked everywhere in the settings but I don't see anything wrong or anything that could change this behaviour. How can I troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks!

@perfran

Just remembered that my 700 had recently been re-furbished to "Out of box" state so GPS would have set itself up from scratch which might have had a bearing upon this.

Thanks aspergerguy, I'll try to refurbish it and see if it does change anything.
