Why couldn't nokia or the BBC or the network operators have done that earlier?

For all those who are reading this article about streaming over 3G I would like to let you know that I am a proud owner of the Nokia N8 now running Belle. I can see from here that some of you are guessing as to whether or not the N8 can stream BBC live programs over 3G. Well I am not guessing when I says that it can. I was able to watch the Wimbledon final on my N8 while on 3G. The problem as some of you might have guess lies with the network provider. I was to watch BBC iplayer live streaming because I was on the 3 network. Three days ago I move over to Tmobile because they were offering a very good plan and so I leave the 3 network. Now when I try to get live streaming from BBC iplayer I get the message that I cannot from my N8 handset and that I would have to switch to a WIFI connection. I am now sorry that I switch.

According to the BBC's web site the N8 is supposed to be able to stream over 3G. However, my N8 is not able to do so on the Virgin (T-Mobile) network. It's probably a restriction T-Mobile have in place to prevent high traffic on their network. 3 network is supported as well as Vodafone.

 

 Strangely, if you start a program over Wi-Fi then pause it and switch to a 3G connection the program will continue to play over that 3G connection.
