My new nokia N8 is constantly coming up with the message "connect usb cable to device".

I'll click ok and 2 minutes later it will reappear.

When i connect it to a usb, it disappears but will then reappear when i unplug. I've tried updating software but none is available, and there is no programs running on the phone.

When i turn off and on i still get the same problem.

Anyone know of a solution before i throw it against the wall?

Just to make it clear, you can see this message in your phone,

when you don't have anything connected to it? In normal use, phone

alone?

The error comes up no matter what i'm doing (unless it's plugged in to a computer).. i only actually plugged it in to a computer to try and shut the thing up!!

it's very frustrating.

forgot to mention, the message comes up when nothing is connected to it.

The usb symbol in the top right corner flashes too.

Normally this messages only appears if you connect the USB-otg-cable without a device.

What did you choos as your USB-default-mode (you can find this in your settings)

Ok,

Have you tried the trick  you can find from the phone's

manual; long press the on/off button (for 8-10 sec) until the

phone vibrates three times? With this, you don't lose any

of your information.

I've tried each different setting, but they don't make any difference. I've just tried the on/off button trick but no luck

Sorry to hear it didn't help,

All we can do now is to wait for the older gurus if they have

anything to say. You can also consider to take your phone back 

there were you bought it for replacement ( or local Nokia care center).

That's barely a trick

it just kills the power to the phone and is esentialy the same as using the on off switch

anyway as to the OP don't know

you could try resseting the device  type *#7370# into the dialer,

this will restore the phone to an out of box stateand you will loose all of your settings

see if that helps

Yes, you got the point. I didn't want to use the *#...# codes,

because there could be some problems with them as you know.

I'm not aware of any problem with the reset codes,

just the manual multi fingered reset

I had same problem. I connected the usb cable to my PC and phone. Then a message appeared like 'device not supported' (don't remember it exactly). I first pulled out the cable from phone and it worked. It is not showing any such message now

 Have you at some point connected a usb memory stick to your phone? Then pulled the stick out without safely disconnecting the usb stick by long pressing on the device then selecting " Remove memory card " ?

 If so, you could try re-attaching the memory stick, then safely removing it.

I just upgraded software and I am having same problem. USB icon shows as flashing on top right corner. Also, error message for no usb cable shows up if i disconnect usb cable from pc savely.

I guess if I can install older version of software i can get rid of this error message. Is there any way to revert back to previous software version?

i'm facing the same problem from last 10 days. I bought my fone from carphone ware house. I gave them for repair. After a week they gave me my cell back and said we have fix it. The same day when I went back to home that message pops up again. Now I gave them again to fix it. Its really annoying.

Yeh mate i ma facing the same problem. I think Nokia might put some new update regarding

Usb cable that might support new data cables.
