My Nokia N82 got a problem with the camera. When i'm taking all black picture in the dark without switching on the flash, some white dots and also in red color look like dead pixels appear on the screen after capturing. But when viewing the all black picture in the gallery, the picture is juz clean, white and red dead pixels dissappear. I tried updating the firmware to the latest v31, but the problem still there. Although the problem doesn't occur when taking picture in bright sunny day, yet it's just very annoying when in the dark.

I wander whether it's the software's or the camera's problem?

 anybody have any idea?

What you are seeing is "noise". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_noise

It is normal because the camera isn't designed to work in complete darkness.  Most cameras will behave in the exact same way.

Why on earth would you want to take an all black photo anyway????

You're taking an all black photo, so it's not going to bother anything.

If it appears fine in the gallery, then all is well, isn't it?

obviously, it's not noise. it's something like the dead pixels... but i dun understand y it dissappear when viewing in the gallery? i know what is noise, but mine is not. how can an all black picture with noises appear in white?

Y am i taking picture in all black? An all black picture can test whether there is any dead pixels on your hp's screen. coz normally dead pixels are appearing in white or red.

even thought it doesnt bother me when taking picture in bright days, but i feel very uncomformtable when i know there are problems with my camera. i want it to be perfect.

If you feel that it isn't functioning correctly then take it to a nokia care point.

Personally I do not feel that it is an accurate or reliable way of testing for dead pixels.

i guess the specialists would have equipments to test dead pixels. but what if u don't have those equipments? all black screen is the best way for testing dead pixels. unless u have other solutions la. mind to share it here?

An all black screen taken with the phones camera is not ideal as you cannot guarantee that it will be all black due to compression and other factors.

An all black image created on a computer would be much more accurate but this wouldn't allow you to spot dead pixels.  On a black image you can see stuck pixels which are bright white, red, green or blue. 

To find dead pixels which are black you need an all white image.

The same is my problem. But in video it does show & is recorded as well along with. Camera problem is there but cant do anything as it is fine after taking the pic. Showed it to NSC they said would take atleast 2 weeks to solve it so i rejected it as it is very minor problem.

depends on the color of the dead pixels... dead pixels on our mobile screen is normally form by three colors, that is green,

red, and blue. if u would use an all white picture to test, it would be difficult to notice as like green is the nearest to white colo.

red would be difficult to notice too, only blue can be noticed on an all white picture.

in some cases... the dead pixels are appearing in black, that means the pixels are totally dead,

it doesnt produces color anymore, then these black "totally dead" pixels are very obvious in the white picture.

other than that, black picture is the best way to test the three colors dead pixels.

I've only ever had one dead pixel on an E65 and it was a black one so you really should check using black and white images, created on a computer.

and i found out that utkarsh_n82 got the similar problem as so mine. he's right, i think Nokia Care Point may take some time

to get it fixed. as like mine had already sent to them on last friday, it's not done yet so far. hope they would understand & notice the problems that i mentioned. haiz... worrying bout my N82 la.

My reason why i didn't sent it to NSC is that they will take 2-3 weeks to cure the problem and would do nothing in those days. So this is very annoying for me as i cant stay 1 day without it!

You may find that a care point won't help you with any dead pixel issue's, it depends on the policy in your country.

But as I suggested earlier in this thread if you feel that it isn't working correctly then you should visit a care point.

No.... i really hope they can change a new screen for me, n also the problems of the camera. As they had told me that dead pixels are covered by warranty too. As long as it's not physical tears and ruins. otherwise i'm gonna spend money on it at other repairing shops.

there are only 2 things i'll do if Nokia Care Point is unable to fix it for me.

1) visiting other repairing shops

2) sell it.

but i think most probably nokia would fix it for me, even though they don't, i'll juz keep sending it back again and again.

since my hp is brand new, they have to care about their reputation or they may lose the customers' confidence on them.

Dead pixels have always been a bit of a controversial point for most electronic device suppliers.

I had two dead pixels on a samsung HDTV and they refused to replace the screen under warranty as it was "within tolerance". Luckily I had insurance on it

how about dead/hot/stuck pixels on the ccd chip itself? like visible when zoom? is the chip itself replaceble?
