Does anyone know how to get ovi maps on to my Nokia 5530? I believe it comes pre-installed on the 5800 but not on the 5530, but it seems like there should be no reason it wouldn't work on the 5800 too?
I have tried using the map installer program, but it doesn't seem to recognise my phone. Is there an Ovi Maps SIS file or something I can just transfer to the device and install?

You're absolutely right, it doesn't have GPS.
I could install google maps, but what I am looking for is the offline functionality of ovi maps. i.e I could download a map of wales for example while connected to wifi, but when I'd be out and about, I could browse the map with no further data connection. I don't think google maps does this, but I think OVI maps does.

no way. MUCH SIMPLER
On VISTA today -
just connect the phone to the pc using usb and make sure your sim card is inside.
it then updates and installs maps 3.0 after you accept all sorts of requests to install etc...

When people say they've installed Maps, do they mean that they now have an OVI map facitily on their PC software or they have actually downloaded a map on to their mobile phone?
I've followed the above replies and yes I now have the OVI Map download button displayed. But whenever I choose that option, no maps are available because the software says my 5530 isn't compatible with OVI Maps.

I've got the latest version (with free navigation) up and running.
Download the 5800 Ovi Maps software to your PC and then transfer it onto phone using "mass storage"
Go to file manager on phone and run the installation file you just copied.
Start up the Ovi Maps application ( this creates a "drive" for the maps). Close it down and then turn phone off and back on.
Download Map Loader application to your PC
Start up Map Loader and then connect phone via USB cable using "PC Suite" option - this should work if you previously started Ovi Maps as above
Select the required maps (and voice if needed) and transfer them to your phone.
Next time you start Ovi Maps, everything should be there.
I think you need a bluetooth GPS if the navigation is going to be any use but you probably knew that already.

I had Ovi Maps preinstalled, but when I tried to update to v3, it updated everything and said "Update Failed" at the end...

I'm still struggling with this. Downloaded the maps program to the 5530, but it appears to contain no mapping information, Obviously I need to dl specific mapping - UK in my case - but can't seem to find how. Any help appreciated. I'm a novice to these 'new' phones!

If you've got the (latest) Nokia Ovi Suite, go to Maps>Europe>United Kingdom. The first time you push the "Maps"-button, it will have to install some software, just wait until it's done.
If you haven't got it yet, go to http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/

Can it use a bluetooth GPS device with Ovi Maps 3.0?

Ovi Maps 3.04 works without problems with a seperate Bluetooth GPS receiver.
Maybe you have to unistall an older version of Maps before you install 3.04. Download everything on your memorycard
