Re: Post your N97 bugs here

"My N97 is very very bad on reception, both in UMTS mode, in GSM mode and also in dual mode. Where I can call with my N95 8G I can't call with N97"

Yes, mine is the same. I have more locations where I consistently loose coverage  adn in these places my N95 never lost signal.

I have noticed that when my phone switches from 3G to normal it can't do it without dropping out completely then reconnecting. Again, this wasn't present in my N95.

Is tired of whingers.

You can send Business card using contacts. Go to desired contact and click the icon on top right side (looks like a phone book - icon ) click that and click option you will see business card option.

Re: Post your N97 bugs here

I feel really sorry for you, its so dissapointing to be stuck with a lemon like this N97, maybe my experiance may help.

It is true the N97 is the most disastrous phone nokia has ever produced and has cost them not only market share but the following of many loyal customers who would only consider which Nokia to buy not which phone. Like myself.

I endured this phone for 5 months until I took legal action against the company for supplying goods not fit for the purpose and they cancelled the contract.

So why did this phone fail so badly? I think I expected it to work like my N95 with a touch screen and if it had done that I would have been happy however what happened is almost nothing worked at all. voice dialing , gps, speakerphone, camera, usability, keyboard all useless and it was not an intuitive phone so lots of times I had no idea what to do next.

Then there is that stupid flip idea, how many times I tried to open it the wrong way or it would practically explode when you opened it and try holding it to you ear when its opened - impossible.

I went back to my N95 which is still usable for most of the functions I need and the reason I am still using the N95 is because there is no phone at the present moment that is entirely satisfactory - for me.

I say for me because the N97 and other phones maybe fine for some people who dont need the functions I do, namely the things I have itemised above. I spend a lot of time in my car so I need voice dialing I need speakerphone and I need GPS, I need a camera, I need a phone that is easy to handle and is intuitive to use.

Finally there is the software issue. I hate to say this but apple are so far above the rest of the gaggle they are in another universe when it comes to software.

When my wife wanted a new phone I had no hesitation in getting her an apple, She could not care less if it does not open 6 programs at once if it has a flash on the camera or no expansion slot or any other of the drawbacks the apple has. All she knows if she wants to call someone it works and works perfectly camera the same, everything the same the features on it while limited work and work perfectly.

And then the 100,000 apps of which 99,995 are useless but the 5 she has downloaded are magnificent but still border on the almost useless.

But the truth is thats what most people want a phone that works with 100,000 apps they will never use , its not good enough to release a device now and have to wait 6 months for software to be released so the device actually works NO ONE especially ME is every going to accept that situation again.

Now I go to the store and I want to see the device working, I have a check list of all the items that I want to be sure work before I even consider buying a device, then I want to be left alone for an hour while i fiddle with the thing and make sure I like the way it feels and operates. And I will do that 3 or 4 times till I am convinced this is the device thats right.

I thought I had it with the HTC HD2 but no voice dial or voice anything for that matter another magnificent failure so now I am waiting for the sony X10 on andriod that should be interesting.

I hope Nokia can climb out of this mess they have created for themselves as they still have the best quality hardware and are willing to give creativity a go like the N97 however Its taught me a couple of lessons namely dont believe any of the propaganda written about a device before its released and make sure you are happy with the device before you commit to a contract to buy it.

Re: Post your N97 bugs here

on removing the charging cable, my N97 can sometimes still indicate it is charging and the small light next to the micro-USB socket remains on. I am not sure but I suspect that this fault has led to my phone freezing twice. Has anyone experienced similar problems and found any solutions?

Re: Post your N97 bugs here

Nokaibear i had the same problem and sent it off to 3 to get it fixed straight away as it was only my 3rd month and they said i had physically damaged it so it wasnt covered by the warranty but apparently the phone was beyond repair anyway. however i know i did not damage the N97 in any way.

Music bought from Nokia music store doesn't play correctly when using bluetooth - sound will disappear at random times during the song; no problems with music/mp3s added by me.

Bluetooth loses connection when not used for about 30-45 mins although don't know whether this is a stand-by feature or not but if so I can't get it to reconnect.

Sometimes music plays but no sound is heard from the Bluetooth headphones.

On several occasions when someone calls the Nokia ringtone plays even though that's not set as my ringtone.

All these began after the last software update.

Of course the biggest headache is the small size of the C memory & the inability to use the E memory for certain applications - Ovi maps being one.

Alright, yesterday I found nice little bug which is pretty annoying. I am not sure is it old one but I faced it yesterday for a first time

When using phone's own browser and go to youtube.com and phone is qwerty out, after you have typed one letter to search bar and try to backspace it away, browser crashes. I can repeat it as many times I want.

Phone N97 (black)

SIM-free

free memory states

Re: Post your N97 bugs here

I am on my third N97 (RM-505, N97-1, Code 0586701 FW 21.0.045) and still have the following issues (had them with the previous 2 handsets as well):

  • Frequent freeze-up of the handset requiring removal of the battery to restart, happening for instance when rotating the display, starting apps, inserting the headphone plug and for various other reasons.
  • Handset also freezes with a black screen when turning on, again requiring removal of the battery
  • backlight sometimes doesn't run off oven though the timer is set to 30 seconds, draining the battery quickly (auto-screenguard and lock DOES activate)
  • phone sometimes fails to respond or is very slow to do so when touching the screen, meaning apps do not launch or do not accept input.
  • Ring tone sometimes defaults to the default, dreaded Nokia tune, even though custom ringtones are set for profiles and also for some contacts.
  • Handset has no global connections settings for apps, having to confirm phone data usage or internet connection each time it is started is just plain annoying. this would only make sense when roaming but not in my network where i have a data flat rate.
  • *NEW* The latest annoyance are spontaneous reboots when using apps. Display will go erratic, then then phone goes black and after a few seocns to the Nokia boot screen, No PIN-Entry necessary though, but with the long startup time of the N97, nonetheless exceedingly annoying.
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

Re: Post your N97 bugs here - RAM leaks

I've been trying various combinations of activities trying to confirm RAM leaks on my N97 NAM ver 21.2.045 and figured a few places for possible RAM leaks:

- GPS/Nokia Maps 3.03 -  Opening Nokia Maps generally will result in a permanent loss of at least 2MB every time opened.

- Camera - opening camera and taking a picture generally incur a one time 1MB loss.

- Homescreen in landscape mode seems to eat about 1MB. Don't know if it's one time.

Every other app I've tried on the phone seems to be just fine - I can reclaim the RAM eventually.

Apps tested includes:

- Messaging

- Music Player

- Podcasting

- Photos

- Photo Browser

- Contacts

- Clock

- Opera Mobile

- Web

- Mobbler

I try to test to see if RAM can be reclaimed by opening Opera Mobile tabs until it complains about "Out of Memory". Then check for memory in X-plore free version on the RAM disk size.

Can someone here or in Nokia confirm this please?

Re: Post your N97 bugs here - RAM leaks

Aww i've had a hellish time with my N97! Amazing when it works but generally it doesn't :smileymad:

Problems include:

Paint entirely off on surround
charging port failure
RAM hogging causing phone to freeze

Random Freezing
unlock key not unlocking
Battery not holding power
session key expiring causing Facebook to log itself out

Nokia & Vodafone refused to have anything to do with it finally sent to insurance who said they couldn't fix but have returned phone with new charging port, new inner screen and updated firmware.

Now firmwares updated there's more problems! RAM hogging is worse than its EVER been! Phone crashes FAR more, constantly "running out of memory" on C:/ drive...

God I wish I'd got an iphone...seriously I'll never have nokia again :smileysad:
