Yes I also have the problem that when address book syncs through OVI all my contacts are marked as Favourites - So I have to manually uncheck them (I have over 500 contacts so this is no small chore). I also can't find a feild in Outlook that turns this on.
Unbelievable - Nothing on this phone works as it should. When is the next firmware update Nokia because the 1st one fixed "NOTHING"
Anyway due to the bugs and severe hardware limitations - i.e small memory, very poor signal reception Covers scratching camera lenses and the screen etc etc I reckon Nokia needs to recall all the N97 phones. It would be the respectable thing to do and may just salvage what little good will remains amoungst thier once loyal supporters.

Hello everyone,
I have been using the N97 for about 3 weeks now, and I upgraded the phone to the new firmware (11.0.021) about 3 days ago. Even after the new firmware upgrade I still see a lot of problems. I will write all of them and please let me know if you have the same problems...
1. Slide answer. This is very frustrating, when the phone is locked and you receiv a call you have the option to slide answer or slide unlock the phone. I usually go for the slide answer unless I want to unlock and reject the call. Problem is after slide answering the call, phone gets locked or stuck. After I finish my conversation I want to finish my call but none of the buttons or the lock/unlock key on the side of the phone seems to be working. Screen freezes on the call screen, and flip opneing the phone and closing it does not change a thing. I end up powering down the phone and restarting it. This happened to me at least 4 times, once after the new firmware upgrade.
2. Phone has still connection problems, I have 2 WLAN and a carrier internet connection setup on the phone. WLAN priorities are higher than the carrier internet connection. Phone still seems to get confused which one to use. Especially when WLANs are not awailable. In addition sometimes when I need a connection, it asks me if I want to connect through my carrier. All this stuff is already setup on the connection manager, it should be simple if the WLANs are not available it should automaticly connect through the carrier. I don't understand why it sometimes asks me if I want to connect, and sometimes it does everything right.
3. Most of the applications that need internet connection, get confused about which connection they should use, and they sometimes freeze while trying to connect.
4. I did not see any improvements on the touch response of the screen on the new firmware.
5. SW application. software update application is stuck on my phone. I checked to see if there was an upgrade for the phone, and it showed me the new firmware upgrade available. I upgraded the firmware with my PC. Now when I go into the SW application it still shows the same upgrade available, even though I already upgraded the firmware. I could not find a way of refreshing that info so that it would disappear. Turned off and on, several times since the upgrade but it still shows that a new upgrade is available. I could not get rid of it.
5. Finally, this phone is supposed to be a i-phone killer, however, i-phone seems to have a faster OS and much more responsive with the touch screen, especially after the 3GS upgrade. My opinion, nokia will need a lot more firmware upgrades.

Hi,
Updated my N97 to the latest firmware. Having a problem with the messaging application. When i click the icon , the scroll bar only is displayed, there are no meny items displayed on the screen. when i touch the screen for scroling the items appear. Is anyone else having this problem?
Also does anyone know how to enter mutiple symbols in one go. On my previous N82, when i load the symbols i can select mutiple items by pressing the 5 key before going to the message screen. how can i do the same on the N97?

My UK (and therefore not currently upgradable due to lack of firmware in most of europe) N97 does this all the time. It is extremely annoying. Glad to know they fixed it.

Is there a way, we can submit all these bugs to Nokia Design team ?
I just noticed you are collecting bugs here. So i am pasting my earlier post again.
--------------------------------------------------
Before i write these bug lists, let me tell you, i had Nokia 7710, E90, N82 and recently E71.
Now i brough N97 with great hope just to find out how horrible this phone is.
Bug list -
1) The video recording if it goes upto 3 mins, the file size it around 150mb and you can imagine how bad is the nokia mp4 compression. Also, out of 5 movies i recorded 1 failed to open. They get corrupt.
The camera LED flash throughs uneven light. Its high on left side. The picture quality bad and is just 10% of N82 which had Xenon flash.
2 ). The video quality is very inferior to N82(i have that). This video creates red noise in dark areas. It freezes frames.
3 ). The inside screens are old Series S60 3rd edition. There is no improvement in Contacts, File manager and photo browser.
4). The photo browser is phatetic. It you zoom any image, it takes something 5 sec to get a clear picture. First it shows pixilated image and then if you are lucky it refreshes to correct image. This is because of very low ram of 128mb of N97. Other phoes have 256mb. The photos look like folder optios and you click one picture and then click back. Where as other phoes. LG Arena and Samsung have innovative ways to see the pictures.
5) I am facing frequent freezing of system. I checked the system status and it shows 100 mb ram usage(without any apps running) and only 20mb for multitasking. So you can imagine why all problems are there.
6) Also i notice that thespeaker quality is very cheap. The sound volume is low then my previous E71. On full earpiece volume the speaker breaks. It sounds like a tin barrel making sound. I just say, nokia has just juse a cheap speaker then the chinese phone... and they call this sterio speaker. ..Nokia ... you are just a shameless folks.
7) The touch screen freezes at many places. Its very confusing to use this phone. At some places it is double tap and at some places single tap. I cant remember and i make mistakes.
8)Problems with nokia emails : the nokia email application (NMS) dosent support html emails which it use to support on my previous E71.IT is not designed for touch. Every action is from the famous Nokia Option menu. They have not used drag guestures to move to next mails and browse emails. Nokia messaging dont work properly on the N97. It dosent have HTML support and neither Touch support. If you have 2-3 email, you cant switch by touching the email dropdown. The touch dont work. You have to use the slide keypad. Also the loading circular icon shows only half and full in the landscape mode.
The worst part in landscape mode is...., of the 3.5 inch display, 60% is taken by the buttons and email headers. So you are left with mear 200pix width. There is no full screen mode. Its a pathetic
9) Accepting and rejecting calls is a nightmare. You first have to slide to unlock the screen and then click to accept call. So two actions. But that too are complex. The unlock slide is on left direction and then accept on right direction. The finger stroke. And since the phone is slow to repond, it takes 5-10 sec to accept the call.
10) Another funny thing is, each time i go to accept the call and the icons rotate due to G-sensor. So it takes another 5 seconds to orient the phone in right direction and then slide the icons in opposite directions.. They should disable the default rotation in the call accept and reject.
11) They have also copied the iphone unlock style. I mean, on the home screen you need to swap your fingure from left to right to unlock the screen. But the most idiot thing here is that the slider dont move with your fingure. It remains there and only your fingure goes ahead. Perhaps nokia couldnt copy the iphone properly or it was patented... ????
12) another point. At Rs.35K they dont supply you with the AV cable that use to come with N82. So you cant see movies on TV.
13) Keypad problem : I saw that in the black model , the keys are white with black background. They are very think as if it looks like its used for past 1yrs and totally worn-out. Now the funny part. Because of this i got the white phone. Now today in noticed that, indoors the sensor lights under the keypad so there is white lit text on white background. This means you cannot read the text at all... This problem is not an acceptable design.... its really sucks. My earlier E90 atleast had manual control of keypad backlight.
Nokia - please be professional and dont release shuch half backed phones. Use your brains to atleast solve common sense probloems.

After upgrading to FW 11.x and doing a hard reset, my phone started working more properly, with a reliable music player, functioning photo gallery program and generally being a bit more responsive. However, I still have lots of issues.
The phone:
- Unlock slider still often does not work on the first attempt
- The homescreen favourite contacts widget has stopped working - it shows only names, not pictures, and I cannot remove contacts from it anymore (I can un-favourte, but the widget doesn't update)
- About once a day, the phone simply switches off. I can turn it back on again right away and everything is OK.
- Adding a RSS feed to the homescreen (via subscribing to it in Web) doesn't work - the widget doesn't update
- Photo Gallery doesn't pick up on the new pictures I have taken with the N97 since sometime last week. I must now view these with Photo Browser beta or through File Manager.
Ovi suite:
- When I transferred a bunch of photos to the phone, Ovi suite set the "Created" date on a whole batch of them to today's date. This screws up their sorting in Photo Browser.
- When trying to transfer a DivX, it says "Converting", but nothing happens; no progress, and the program uses no CPU. Seems it should say "could not convert this file type" instead.
This phone is still in a sorry state. I'm hoping the FW team at Nokia is staying at work, having lots of icecream and cold coke and fixing these bugs.

Chris2,
Looking at your configuration, I have now installed ProfiMail and stopped using nokia email(NMS). I now got 34mb free ram. I dont have anyother background services running. I even stopped the facebook app running on homescreen to save memory for faster usage.
And you are right, i dont understand how much it would have costed nokia to get a 256mb ram and slightly higer processor and a good speaker. I have paid wooping Rs.35,000 for this phone in India. With this cost, i could have brought a motor Bike in india. I dont understand why Nokia acts cheaply in some of its business phones. I even had, E61, the first qwerty wide screen phone and it run on 200Mhz processor. It just kept freezing every now and then. Only good phone i have seen till now was E71 which worked ok type for me. I have also used samsung i780, which had very good processo (
I hope nokia atleast fixes these silly bugs and we save all our money we put in N97... heee

Message Storage: Everytime I connect to the PC via USB, be it via Mass Storage or PC Suite mode it forces the phone message system (Nokia Messaging and Text) to point to the C drive from E drive. So whenever I disconnect from my PC I have to go to settings to tell it to point back to E drive. It's very annoying.
