TOP questions for Nseries devices - start here

[ Edited ]

My Nseries device is not functioning properly.
Always make sure that you have the latest software version in your Nokia device. You can update the software yourself using Nokia Software Updater, Nokia's free PC software. Learn more and download Nokia Software Updater at
http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/update-your-phone/

If you think your Nokia device needs repair, go to http://www.nokia.com/global/support/locations/ to find authorized Nokia Care Points globally.

How do I know when there is new software available for my Nokia device?
There are several ways to be notified about new sw versions for each Nokia device:

1) Use Nokia Ovi Suite

When you connect your device to a PC which is running Nokia Ovi Suite, you can check the available updates and install them in Software Updates menu of Ovi Suite.

2) Check online
You can easily check the latest available version on the
Nokia Software Update website.

3) Update over-the-air

Many devices allow you to check and install the software updates directly over-the-air by using 3G/GPRS or WLAN data connection. Go to SW Update menu where you can check the available updates and install them. Alternatively, you can type in the command *#0000# and select Options > Check for updates.

Currently Nokia does not publish the expected release dates for new software versions.

What has been updated in each new software version?
Main updates are published on the
Nokia Software Update website.

How can I make my Nokia device's battery last longer?
Here are some of the most common tips. Note that these tips do not apply to all Nokia device models:

  • Only enable Bluetooth and WLAN when you need them.
  • Set GPRS connection to "When needed".
  • Do not leave applications running unnecessarily in the background, e.g. applications which are using GPS or data connection (consuming the battery power).
  • If using Maps, preload the map data to your device to avoid the downloading of the map data when Maps application is in use.
  • Set the backlight time-out value to turn off the backlight when the device is not used.
  • Turn off the notification lights.

What to do if I get the error message "Memory full. Delete or move some data from C: Phone memory"

The device memory is low in this case and you should try to free some memory on your C: drive. Use File Mgr. application to view the contents of the C: phone memory. To get more free space on C: drive, check the following:

  • Clear the web browser cache to release memory used by the cache.
  • Move your own files stored on C: drive to memory card or mass memory (if your device has an internal mass memory).
  • Check that the captured photos are stored on memory card or mass memory, not on C: drive.
  • Remove applications which are installed in C: phone memory if they are not used, or install them to mass memory if supported by the application
  • The calendar entries, contacts and notes reside in the phone memory. Remove the objects which are not needed.
  • If using Nokia N97 device, select Menu > Applications > SW Update and install Memory reorganiser if it is listed in the available updates. Run the program by selecting Menu > Applications > Reorganiser, this will move some of the applications from C: phone memory to E: mass memory.
