Using the N95 8gb to output video to TV?

Aloha,

Will be going to a land where DVD players are scarce, and a mere TV will be something to rejoice over!!

Have some DVD's i recently got in, that i'd love to take with me on my break!

Was wondering if there's any way i can Rip the video from the DVD, put them on my N95 8GB's memory, and use the TV-output cable to play the films on the TV (with composite yellow, red, white input) when i get there.

Can anyone tell me if that will be possible?

If so, what video format will i need to convert them to? What would be the best converter, DVD ripper & codec settings, etc.

Thanks!!
my phones in order of appearance : (starting 3 years ago!) Motorola V3, Sony Ericsson K610i, Samsung D800, LG Chocolate, Nokia N70!

I change phones a lot, have had 11 different handsets in 2006!!

yes, it can be done, have done it myself. I use 'Super' or 'Any Video Converter' both freeware to convert. Your biggest problem will be... Higher quality? so it looks good on the tv OR lower quality? to fit more dvd's on your phone

Also note that the phone will output to TV at its own resolution of 320x240, so there's no point in maintaining higher resolution than that.

Re: Using the N95 8gb to output video to TV?

So..... can i rip my DVD using super?

I'm really not good with this computer stuff, sorry!

Have the 8gb 7.5gb full of music atm.

Can clear down maybe 3-4GB, so will be able to have 4gb-5gb of free memory (i love the n95 8gb!!!) how many films at best quality (considering output limit) should i be able to whack on?

Would maybe ideally have 6 or so, sounds fair.

Too low a bitrate maybe?

At 320x240, any MPEG4 stream below, say, 200-250 kbps is going to look blocky.

Re: Using the N95 8gb to output video to TV?

I have ripped a dvd using super but I seem to remember that I also often had trouble doing it that way so you might want to google for a program to rip with and just use super to re-encode with.

It's been a while but I think my settings were:
Video Scale 320:240
Aspect 4:3
Frames per Sec: 29.95
Bitrate 1248

I think they may/might have been the default for mp4 as I seem to get better output than if I encode for 3gp.

Re: Using the N95 8gb to output video to TV?

i've been doing a 640x320 Mpeg4 codec output, as that actually allows the TV to display it in 640x320!

:smileyfrustrated: one problem though.... the files i convert with super seem to have very low volume! Need to turn the TV & phone up to full to get a reasonable volume.

is there any way to increase the volume of the videos through an application or another converter

Actually this information is inaccurate. :smileywink:

The phone outputs VGA 640x480 when playing video or watching pictures in TV-out.

So if you encode the video at VGA you WILL see a difference over QVGA when using TV-out. On the phone screen there is no difference since the phone is QVGA only.

There's an option in SUPER to boost the audio. An audio gain option, check it out. Can't remember exactly where but I've used it a couple of times.
