It never gets anything, still waiting for NFC payment, Wifi is still borked with no 5ghrz support even tho it was advertised, still waiting for browser updates to make it useful, gets nothing they're putting into their Lumia series.
Why release a phone to just ditch it?
Edit: Oh yeah and the camera is still **bleep** for night time shots, the right hand side of the picture always has this lighter area ruining it.
Not my pictures but mine does the same thing...

So far every picture I've seen online his this blob of light, yet the 920 is fine. So it isn't just my phone :\

Symbian was ditched long before the 808 was released. Be glad that there are still updates coming out for the 808 at all.

I bought the phone thinking it would be supported, then the very next month Nokia killed off Symbian.... like well done Nokia, now nothing will come out for it. They could have just said nothing so people would still want to develop for it, now no one will bother porting over apps anymore.
They could have at least done a Windows Phone 7.8 update for it.

Is there any way to force desktop on the stock browser? Such a simple setting to have but i cannot find it.

Is there ever gonna be a fix for the camera issues at night? I linked the pics of the 808 and 920 showing the issue to the right of pics. Those are samples from a review site and to show it in an extreme situation, if I take a picture in the dark with auto focus off so no external light comes on, I get this...
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z189/slannmage/
No external light source or anything, that's what the camera does by default. You don't notice it during the day, only where the light levels are low. However every site I go to with low light samples and you see the same thing, yet no other phone suffers from it like the 920 that I gave examples for.
Even on this video you see the tedency for the right side to have this weird light to it..
http://mynokiablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/
It has to be a software issue as it isn't persistent, when recording video for example it'll go mad when zooming in and out. When I change settings, it's always there but it can be better or worse.
I just don't like all the processing going on behind the scenes either, it makes the camera so very slow.

What I don't get as well is and I got the gallery update and the telephony one but they seem to do nothing.
- Why does the Wifi always turn off?
- Why doesn't it pick up 5ghz when it was advertised?
- Why does it always say 3.5g even with data turned off?
- Why does the signal indicator never reflect what signal I have?
- Why does the phone always have hang ups like it's about to crash?
- Why does the phone always crash?
- How come when I open applications sometimes, they sit there and do nothing until I restart the phone, especially the gallery.
- Why is the stock browser so slow and has no settings like browser mode?
- Why does Flash never work with any site, it's pointless, might as well not have bothered with it.
- Why is there no panorama? The one thing you'd want on a camera like this.
- Why are there two different stores with different content? Wouldn't it make sense to just have one?
- Why is there no support like ITV player or anything? It's like dead.
- Why have Nokia ditched it instead of doing the right thing, doing a massive update and moving it over to Android or Windows Phone?
Why why why why why?
It's possibly the worst phone I've ever used but I still want to love it for some odd reason.

Yeh it must be a software issue, I downloaded this Camera app from the store and it's gone in the same room with no light. Pictures are faster too...

Are you crazy? The 808's pictures are better. Sharper no overzealus coloursmearing, no weird edge-sharpening.
In fact the only positive about the 920 is its low-light "enlightenment" . But this unfortunately gives rather unatural looking photo's.
The pictures that you linked to were shot in pitch black outside and Steve clearly pointed out that the scenes depicted were deliberately choosen to asure the 920 would be better. They were to demonstrate the difference of the low-light enhancing technology o/t 920. There's no reason to show them here to demonstrate a malfunctioning camera-module. In fact I can show you pictures that show the superiority o/t 808 (even from that same site).
e.g.
Lumia 920 http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/images/big
808PV http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/images/big
Lumia 920 http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/images/big
808PV http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/images/big
On these 2 examples you clearly see that the 808PV is better then the 920 (and the last scene should have been the 920's territory and yet it fails miserable)
Also the worse experience with software upgrades also happens on Lumia users. Some have the feeling that their camera's perform worse after their latest upgrade. It seems Nokia still FU this process just as any other manufacturer does.
Or do you really think that Xperia users (or Galaxy users or HTC users) have different experiences? the Apple fora are filled with people unhappy about the things that got broken after their last update.
I am glad that Nokia still delivers (minor) updates. I too would like to see Nokia give power users more options instead of removing them. Just like the awfull light grey theme. They should have included BOTH dark and light themes to give us CHOICE! The only thing we can do is ASK Nokia to release the dark theme as a seperate product/download. Or make a suitable theme ourselves. ;-)
the same with all the other options. In fact IMHO Wifi is NOT BORKED, I've never seen them advertize 5Ghz band and as for the browser, it IS very usefull. It's the only one with (limited) Flash support build in (Android has removed Flash support in later builds so who are you to complain) and is quite fast (just disable javascript to make it as fast as the Iphone 4S). That website creators can't build proper websites anymore without stupid javascript is not Nokia's fault, complain to the site-maintainers.
And as for Nokia's Lumia range of devices... they still can't do halve of what a N8 can do, even WITH a "borked" Belle Refresh...

Symbian is dead move on to something modern.
15047 posts telling people that, or telling people to do a factory reset on their phone as the magic fix for everything ![]()
Symbian works pretty damn well.
IOS devices have a very good (best in the market) finger gesture implementation, and for the rest you can tear your hair out.

It's real easy to parrot other people. I would be willing to bet you will not be able to tell which phone a random picture was taken with when confronted with one.

I wish they'd do something to fix the annopying magenta gradient tint that appears on the upper right of the image after the camera has been on fo a while and/or at higher ISOs
I can sort of fix it in lightroom with a grad filter, but it's highly annoying
2013-03-21 13:52
you cant just "move to something modern" after spending about 500 bucks on a phone, you expect to get the most of it, ofcourse with the support of the developer.
2013-03-21 13:58
Not when the developer has clearly stated more than a year prior to the release of said phone that the platform it is running on is dead. Spending 500 bucks on a phone not knowing that reminds me of the attached commentary on IP5 buyers.

You think I'm talking out of my **bleep**, do you?
For your information I DID buy more than just a (few) Nokia 701's and 808 Pureview. Including Nokia Lumia 800, C7-00 and X7 etc... Also a few Android models including Xperia U, Xperia miro, Samsung mini II and Galaxy IIIs. And compared photo's next to my olde Nikon D40 and only the 808 comes close.
But show me. Show me that a Lumia 920 can take better pictures than e.g. a HTC One. Or that an Xperia Z can take better pictures than a Nokia 808 PureView.
But don;t fool me by downscaling and photoshopping photo's. I KNOW those tricks too. I KNOW that you can make a bad picture slightly better by downscaling it at 1/2 horizontal and 1/2 vertical and performing a slight unsharp mask (sharpening) in photoshop. Try it. You'd be surprised how good some bad photos may become.
But the harsh edge sharpening from the 920 (and many BSI equiped camera modules) is undeniable. I haven't seen how Samsung with the Galaxy S4 might have improved their software on that same XMor-R sensor that the Xperia Z uses, which they use as well. But the Z itself is horrible with regards to picture taking.
But as a handheld fullHD movie player or handheld FullHD games console it's probably miles ahead from anything Symbian. But for some people taking good pictures is more important than playing games... especially on a telephone!
