few questions about Symbian devices.

i have been using Nokia for years.

i have been using Nokia Symbian devices for 6-7 years.

As this is trending time for android mobiles , why can't Nokia make changes in it devices ?

it lacks many features from android such as

1. embaeded chat in Social

2. various free apps

3. processing speed and faster browing in low end android devices too.

4. various leading third party software developers only prefer Apple and android.

why nokia cant make such policies that other famous software deveopers can attract towards nokia too ?

as i am Symbian lover, i don't expect the anwser that some of this facilities are available in Lumia Series, so switch to Nokia Lumia.

Re: few questions about Symbian devices.

Symbian is discontinued and no longer actively developed. There will be no more symbian devices with the 808 PV being the last one and support will end after 2016. Currently the OS is in 'maintenance mode' where only critical issues might be addressed.

Besides that most of the points you raise are personal ones and depend on 3rd party support, not Nokia. As far as low end devices go, the Asha full touch models can match low end Android devices quite well performance wise. I know it's not Symbian, bit still..

1) Chat on a phone? Really?

Anyway, there are some apps for e.g. Facebook like Facial (freeware) which allows to send messages or post comments (if that is what you mean).

For pure chatting there are other alternatives like WhatsApp etc..

2) I already mentioned Facial (facebook), WhatsApp (chat). there's also Tweetian (twitter) and lots of others. Nokia Store is the place to visit. Sites like AllAboutSymbian reviews a lot of apps including many freewares. Google is your friend.

And while Nokia itself may not be actively develop Symbian OS anymore (Shame on them, they could easily used Windows Phone as complementary products alongside Meego or Symbian to broaden their portfolio and attract new users alongside die-hard Symbian fans, who will never turn to the "dark side"!). Most of these applications are still in active development. Including the ones that I mentioned above.

3) Current Symbian devices run twice as fast as last generation devices like N8, C7 etc... As for faster web there's Opera Mini (which uses server site rendering like Nokia's Express browser) or you can simply dissable Javascript/ECMA-script on Nokia's Web to make that fly. In fact javascript is cause for much bloat and **bleep** on webpages these days. The faster webbrowser either have accelerated javascript-engines (Google's chrome) or no javascript engine at all (NetSurf).

In fact disabling/enabling ECMAscript is very easy in Symbian. Open Web, click onscreen menu-button --> settings --> general --> Java/ECMA-script . This generates a nice speedup especially on 3G.

Besides there's more in a phone than webbrowsing.

Did you know that Symbian devices are the only devices on the market today with full 2-way call recording? Even the mighty Samsung galaxy S4 can't (properly) record calls (like a 2005 Sony Ericsson K750i could). But any Symbian device can properly record calls (both your voice as the caller's voice) with the inbuild recorder (manually) or automatically (3rd party software). To make sure you understand: Symbian devices can do call recording NOT Lumia (or any other Windows Phone for that matter), not iPhones, not Bada-devices (Samsung), not Brew-devices (HTC) and most Android devices can't either. Some can do partial recording (e.g. the Galaxy SGS3 can record the caller but not your own voice) but most do nothing with one or two exceptions (Orange San francisco or LG Optimus 4XHD). I do believe that S40 devices CAN record calls but only manual with the inbuild recorder which is tucked away in the menus and can't be attached convientely on a key or homescreen (perhaps Nokia can address this in the future). unfortunately I'm not aware of 3rd party S40 apps for automatic call-recording.

Or that Symbian is the only multitasking OS where you, the user decide which apps remains running in the background or quits? Run an app press the red-button (hangup) to quit the app, and white (menu) to keep it running in the background. as simple as that. Keep the white (menu) button pressed down for the task manager to appear.

And guess which phones has proper profiles? Even TIMED profiles where you tells your phone to return to normal profile after a specific time. Say, after you went to the cinema where you put your phone on silent and when you forgot the put the ringer back on after the film. Right!

4) That's a problem indeed. They deliberately ignore Symbian and have done so for years. Which is quite foolish since there are still an awfull lot of Symbian users out there. Don't forget that many of these apps are just for propaganda. To make it seem that only iPhones and Android devices are smartphones. Most of the data can be seen on their website too (even on Symbian devices).

And because you can make bookmarks appear on your homescreens they work just as apps. Use the m.website.com syntax to retrieve the mobile websites instead of the desktop website (for speedier access to the data).

Needless to say that Nokia wants you to get a Windows Phone device while many Symbian users themselves prefer the Symbian devices especially the 808 pureview and the 701 are the favorite devices amongst us.

As for Lumia's I've had a Lumia 800 and was severely dissapointed. Now I have an 808 Pureview. Fantastic device. I can wholeheartly recommend it. But if you don;t need the best camera on a phone then go for the 701. It's Nokia's forgotten gem. It has the speed and features o/t 808. Like full bluetooth transfer (not just photos and contacts), full multitasking (see above), full 2-way callrecording, profiles, Nokia Maps accesable from contacts and agenda, local USB/bluetooth syncing (when contact/client confidentiality is important), full call log, etc... did I mention 2-way call recording? :smileysurprised:)
