N8 / N8-00 USB Modem Driver fails to install on Windows 7 64-bit

[ Edited ]

I want to use my Nokia N8 as a modem.

I have installed the latest version of Nokia OVI Suite (3.0.0.290) on my notebook (ASUS N53J with Windows 7 64-bit). When I connect the N8 via USB cable, all drivers install OK except the N8 / N8-00 USB Modem, which fails. In OVI Suite then, everything else is OK but the "Tools - Connect To Internet" menu option is disabled / greyed-out, and I cannot connect to the net.

I have perfromed the exact same process on my ASUS desktop running Windows 7 32-bit and it works fine. N8 / N8-00 USB Modem driver installs along with all the others, and I am able to connect to internet using the "Tools - Connect To Internet" menu option within OVI Suite.

The N8 device itself is also current with the latest software updates.

Is this a common issue on Win7 64-bit ? Is anyone successfully connecting ? What can I do to resolve ?

Thanks.

Re: N8 / N8-00 USB Modem Driver fails to install on Windows 7 64-bit

Has anyone found a solution to this?

I cleaned drviers, reinstalled Ovi, no Help.

It seems the Modem Driver is not available seperatly.

Without a solution my phone turns about 50% useless for me and i will serously doubt to use them for our company in the future.

Nokia telephone support also was no help since they did not even understand the problem.

If a qualified supporter reads this please get a solution.

I know that on a brand new Laptop it works, but it is no option to reinstall laptops just because a driver is not loaded.

Here is the solution:

1. Go to start menu
2. Run ‘regedit’
3. Open this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4. In this key, find the “Installer32” string.
5. If the Microsoft Registration Key is missing, the key has to be added manually.
6. Create a “string” value named “Installer32”, and set it to “mdminst.dll,ClassInstall32”
5. Save the ‘regedit’
6. Open the device manage
7. Find N8-00 modem with problem; uninstall it
8. Let windows detect N8 again by plugging it in.
