Hi just got my Nokia N900 today and installed all the pc programs becuase i wantted to put music etc on it. One problem which i've been stuck with for hours is this:
When connecting the n900 i get asked what mode i select (pc suite mode) although it doesnt connect at all.
It isnt registered in anyway on the nokia programs although the device does charge and my windows system picks up that in connected although the problem is that it is errored. I have a problem with the device drivers on my pc (i think) on my computer it says device software cannot be found!
i have tried a few things in attempting to find a souloution:
-Restarting both Nokia N900 and my laptop.
-Un-installing and reininstalling the pc suite program.
-Goining into device management and deleteing the driver for the (pc suite mode) and then re-inserting the usb connection to attempt to re-install.
-hours of browsing and searching for a soloution (even called nokia but they are on holiday, new years eve and all.)
any help will be reallly appreciated so much, i really want to get this sorted.
it been bugging me for hours, and would like to be able to update my phone etc
ok thought this might help im opperating on vista, using the latest updates.
got the latest programs form nokia too.
im trying to do this through a usb cable as well, if i didnt make it clear soz
thanks in advance, sam

I have the same problem ever since I upgraded PC-Suite to ver. 7.1.40.1 - prior to upgrade PC-Suite
functioned normally (in it's partial manner).
Here are some details:
OS: Windows 7 PRO x64
Connection type: Data Cable CA-101
I can no longer connect my phone to the PC in PC-Suite-MODE (it still connects in Mass-Storage-MODE).
When plugging the cable I get the following message:
"Device driver software was not successfully installed".
Clicking the error baloon brings up a list of 5 drivers:
- Nokia N900 USB Phone Parent (Ready to use)
- Generic Phone (No Driver Found)
- PC Suite Services (No Driver Found)
- SYNCML-SYNC (No Driver Found)
- Nokia N900 USB Modem (Ready to use)
In Device Manager (Windows) the three "No Driver Found" devices are shown with an exclamation mark.
Attempt to locate and install driver software manually (pointing to PC-Suite's location on hard-drive)
gives the following message:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install
it."
(Nokia N900 USB OBEX/Nokia N900 USB Generic)
I've attempted to uninstall all NOKIA software and ran the PC Suite CLEANER. However, sub-sequent re-
install didn't help.
All installations were made in XP-SP2 compatibility mode and Run as Administrator was checked.
Interesting to note that the phone still connects to my Laptop after a similar upgrade. The Laptop is
running XP-SP2!
So is it possible that this is a Windows7 drivers issue (that is only relevant with this new version
of PC-Suite)??

I had similar problems at first.
Was mixing OVI and PCSuite on same windows7-installation while using my N95 before.
So I ended up de-installing both packages completely. Also I removed each and every nokia application from control panel -> programs: Nokia Connectivity Cable driver, Separate Map Loader & Updater, PC Connectivity Solution.
Also was running PC Suite Removal tools which are available from support pages.
Then, starting from scratch, everything installed fine using the 7.1.40 international version mentioned before.

So what was the actual solution?
Because it seems that I have a similar problem and the link doesn't work anymore.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the suite - still the same.
Please advise.

Please try the following steps:
If there is no issue in connectivity then please try the steps provided below;
Uninstall the following from Add/Remove
- Nokia Ovi Suite
- Nokia Connectivity cable driver
- PC Connectivity Solution
- PC suite if present.
Then go to device manager: Right Click My computer-manage
- Ports
- Remove all which shows as nokia there. (please dont remove others)
- Restart Computer.
Donwload and Install Ovi Suite
Restart Computer Again
Connect the device ( wait till all the driver are loaded, please dont cancel this operation)
Open Ovi Suite
Click Connect Device
Hopefully this works

So... Any updates on this problem? Because I have the exact same errors as the rest of you guys: the phone charges, it sees it's connected via USB, but the computer (and Ovi suite, for that matter) won't recognise the phone. Changing the modus to Mass Storage doesn't work either, as Ovi suite just tells me that the phone is in a modus it doesn't support. Next to that, my N900 has the strange tendency to be much, MUCH slower since the Maemo 1.2 update. Has anybody of you noticed how the blinking lights at startup went crazy? Instead of moving from left to right and back again, it now seems to jump between the dots. So yeah, I want to flash it but I want to be sure all my stuff is safe and for that, I really need Ovi suite or PC suite, but neither of them connects the phone. Very annoying ![]()
[EDIT] I'm running Windows 7 x64, I've checked the Maemo flasher page and it mentions that x64 systems handle USB in a different way than x86 systems do. The solution for connecting your phone? "Use an x86 computer instead". So, like, **bleep**, I pay big cash for an operating system AND for my phone, and the phone's manufacturer tells me that they won't work together? I'm kind of annoyed by this...

Is there a some Maemo5 enthusiasts, who could help us compare N900 USB-Mode files against windows 7 registry&drivers? I had my N900 working on Vista 64-bit SP2 with Nokia Suite. Until recently I upgraded to 7 -64bit. Where is the mode config files path in Nokia N900??? I could not find.
