The USB Device you have connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it

Hi All, I am facing an issue with a 6681 phone while connecting via Cable to my PC. My configuration given below:

OS: Windows XP
Device: Nokia 6681
Connection method: Data Cable
PC Suite Version: Came with the mobile

Problem:
1. It was working fine for a month. But now, I am getting the following balloon message: "The USB Device you have connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it".
2. Strange thing is, it is working fine with my office machine, having Win XP.
3. I am able to connect my camera to my home PC, so it is not a hardware issue.
4. Tried uninstalling and reinstalled again, no change, getting the same error message: "The USB Device you have connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it.".

Someone please help.
Thanks,
Sunil.

Re: The USB Device you have connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it

Maybe you could try to delete your USB devices from Device Manager and reboot the computer (without having the cable attached) and then after the reboot attach the cable and phone and see if it installs the USB drivers again, and connects to the PC?!
The views I present are my OWN and not of any organisation I may belong too.

Re: The USB Device you have connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it

Hi teurastaja,

Thank you for your response. I tried the same, but again getting the same message. It started detecting the device, then tried to install the drivers, finally it is saying, "An error occured while installing drivers. Your USB device may not be properly". After that, I am getting the previous message continously in the tray with the header "USB device not recognized". Also, I am getting the cable connection icon in the phone screen just for 2-3 seconds. After that it is diappearing. Can you suggest any solution?

Thanks,

Sunil.

Hi,
Do you recall if something has happened to your phone lately (after all that is the USB device here thatis malfunctioning?) If it has been in contact with moisture etc. and short circuited or something similar ? What ifyou try to clean the cable connectors in the phone side and try connecting it again ?

Have you tried installing the Nokia PC Suite 6.80.22 version to your home PC and tried with that ?

No, that I didn't tried, I don't have internet connection at home. The version I am using at office is 6.5.12, it is working fine. I will try the latest version later, but is there any other way to make the current version to work? If I reinstall windows, it will work?
