Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

I didn't fin a plugin for the 2720 fold so i made one myself editing some isync files.. it works for me.. You can get my edited plugin here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6LFNMD1M

Just download and extract the file and copy it to "/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/"

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

1.  In "Finder" go to your hard drive.

2.  Open up "Applications"

3.  Scroll down to "iSync.app"

4.  Right click on "iSync.app" and then select "Show Package Contents"

5.  Open up "/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/

6.  When you open up the "Plugins" folder you will see a whole bunch of phones listed.  Drop the unzipped file in here.

I just did it and it works!!

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

Hi There !

Thanks a lot for writing this iSync plug-in, it seems to work fine for everyone, except I encounter a problem due to the limited size of the 2720 calendar. My iCal contains a large amount of events, and the sync process always end up with the phone displaying an error message telling the calendar is full.

I wish I could limit the period of time to sync (1 week before - 1 week after), but didn't find any way to do so. Then I tried to edit the plugin using iSync Plug-in Maker (v3.1 running on 10.6.2), but the only thing I get is a blank screen...

I *really* need iCal sync !

Can anyone help ?

Thanks in advance.

José

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

Jose,

If you are using iSync, click on the "More Options" button at the bottom of the iSync window to get the time period you want of one week before and one week after.

The memory capacity of the 2720 is limited, though you can work around this.

In your Mac Address Book create a Group called Phone Sync and drop in there ONLY the most important contact cards.  Do you really need to have the number of the local pizza joint on your phone?  Under iSync More Options make sure that you have checked off "Synchronize only contacts with phone numbers"

As well, manage what in iCal gets synched with your 2720.  Especially if you have multiple calendars set up in iCal.  Check off only those calendars that are important for you to carry around and have access to in your 2720.

Final option, get a new Nokia smartphone.  Maybe an E72.  Which is what I would like to have. Though in the meantime I am just being a little more creative with my memory management.

Hope this helped.

Till later,

NormZ61

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

I' feel so stupid ! I switched to Mac a year ago, and have been using iSync with my previous Nokia 6300 without noticing you can click the phone picture for more options... Some Mac tricks are just too simple for windows users ;-)

I'm already using several calendars and address book groups, but thanks for the advice. Sure an E* or N* series would be more suitable for that kind of use, but I actually bought this low cost phone to replace my dying 6300, waiting for the next iPhone to hit the market !

Thanks again, you saved my life NormZ61 !

Jose,

Not sure about saving your life, though maybe I helped make it a bit more manageable.

Doh!  I just realized that I now have a reason to save my pennies.  The new iPad!!  Woo-Hoo!!

Take care and till later,

Norm

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

Thank you for providing us with the pligin for Isync. It wokrd quite well. One problem appeared while I synced. It seems Isync syncs only in one direction. So all my addresses and telephone numbers moved to the Nokia but the ones from the Nokia didn´t appear in the addressbook, so I am not really able to keep both devices up to date wether i had changes on my phone nor on my computer. is there any chance to fix this or did I something wrong? Thank you Ralf

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

In lieu of Notes, you may want to consider iCal's ToDo List. This does get synched up, this may be an option worth considering. Regards, NormZ61

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

Check your preferences as well. You may want to check under Settings > Sync and back up > Phone switch to make sure all the boxes have been checked off. Not sure if this would be the place to check, but try anyways.

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

The plugin worked for me.  I made a folder in my address book and told iSync to sync with that group.  It adds Nokia contacts to the address book, but does not automatically put them into the group that I specified as the one I wanted to sync.  I assume that's an iSync issue, and not specifically related to the plugin.

I had a little trouble when I started out because when I set up the bluetooth device i think I accidentally had it trying to connect to the network via the phone, which upset things.  I had to turn the phone off and on and then start over.

Re: iSync and Nokia 2720 fold

Notes does not seem to work.  Though I have found that if you place information into iCal's ToDo list this will transfer over to your 2720.

Hope this works for you.
