I'm receiving software updates from time to time. So the following should not be something unattainable:

Using my E7-00 I'm getting mad for my phone is always mixing up scrolling with performing other actions.

So I'd very much appreciate if one of the upcoming software updates would contain the following improvements to any software installed:

1. Add a system setting to set the width of the vertical scrollbar to any value from 1 pixel to 15 pixels. Same for any horizontal scrollbar and its height.
   .
2. Add a system wide "scroll/zoom only" mode to any application. Plus an "action only" mode. There should be a permanent icon applied to some edge of the screen allowing to switch between those two modes.
   
   In "scroll/zoom only" mode, any application should only perform scrolling/zooming regardless of where, when or how long the user touches the touch screen. No other action should be performed in this mode within the application.
   
   In "action only" mode, any application should only perform actions corresponding to appropriate touches on the touch screen. No scrolling, no zooming... If the touch becomes pertinent, only then and only in this mode the context menu should appear.

3. Add a system setting to set the width/height of a touch insensitive black border applied to all four edges of the screen. The width/height of that border setting should be any value from 0 pixels to 15 pixels.
   
   Having this value once set in system settings, this will make it possible to quickly carry the phone while leaving a tram or bus without first fiddling around searching for the lock switch. I don't need full-size. I need robustness.

4. Add system wide support for using the arrow keys of the keyboard to act as scrolling buttons. In any application. Maps, too.
   .
5. Add system wide keyboard shortcuts for zooming, tilting, tabbing to next/previous input controls, and other touch screen functions. This'll allow for a much more stable use of the phone.
   .
6. Add a system stetting to increase keyboard repeat rate. The repeat rate value range should span from 1 * 2/100 s to 10 * 2/100 s.
   
   Currently, deleting the last few words or navigating using the keyboard takes far too long.
   .
7. Cursor movement should not immediately wrap when it reaches the end/beginning of a text.
   
   Instead, when reaching the beginning/end of a text, do one of the following:
   
   (a)  If the beginning/end of the text has been reached by holding down one of the arrow keys, stop cursor movement. Stall until the arrow key is lifted (and optionally beep or buzz the vibrator shortly once), then continue when the next key gets pressed.
   
   (b)  If the beginning/end of the text has been reached by pressing down any arrow key shortly once, ignore the next press of the arrow key that would otherwise result in a cursor wrap. Beep or buzz the vibrator shortly once. After that, continue when the next key gets pressed.

My E7-00 is making me crazy as it's always performing things I don't want it to. This particularly happens when I'm not just standing there like a pillar of salt.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaase, Nokia! Add some more robustness and handling comfort to the software of your phones.

Two more improvement requests:

(a)

While typing messages or other kinds of text it's very hard to tell whether Capitals or Symbol mode is currently active. Only a tiny icon is hiding around somewhere on the sceen that could give information about the current mode.

I very often find myself deleting the last word(s) because I didn't notice that I had accidentally activated Caps Lock while typing.

So I'd like to suggest to change the text input background color when any of the above modes is active. So it gets clearly visible from the corner of the user's eyes that one of these modes is currently active while typing.

To give an example,

• in Capitals mode the text background color might change from white to lightcyan (#e0ffff) or darker,
• in Symbol mode the text background color might change from white to lightyellow (#ffffe0) or darker.

Optionally add a system setting group to allow users to set their preferred colors. So (if set) text background color changes will only affect users who will find them useful.

(b)

Actions should not be performed immediately when "clicking" them. Particularly Contacts is getting me nuts by always opening the typing panel just because I clicked a contact detail (which I actually just wanted to delete).

Let input elements just get focus on first click. Then activate the appropriate edit action on second click. Not right on the first click.

Moreover: Although I have deleted a couple of contact details (like Video Call), they actually don'tseem to get deleted. They always re-appear. Please fix.

Hi there mate,

Sorry to say but Symbian is now in maintenance mode, therefore there will be no more major firmware updates for the platform, as the focus in now on Windows Phone Lumia devices and the Asha line-up. There may be a few more small bug fix updates, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

thanks for your reply.

I was hoping these issues would be regarded as maintenance as they would improve usability with the only Nokia device that's providing a full keyboard plus full screen.

Another disturbing software behaviour:

While making a phone call, hanging up is rather complicated: The phone returns to the Start screen during the call and it only displays a small red phone icon at the top of the screen.

Making a phone call - and particularly exiting a phone call - is a serious matter. It's not something to be hidden.

I suggest the lower 1/8th of a screen to display a red "hang-up" button all the time while a phone call is made. During the phone call all other screen layouts should adjust to match the 7/8th of the screen left (with an appropriate border line applied, separating both, to avoid accidentally triggering the Hang-up button).

When holding down the Menu button on the E7-00 for more than a second, the E7-00 displays the list of running programs.

The image of the most recently used program in the list of running programms always displays the screen of a completely different program.

Please fix.
