Hi. I had the same problem. I realized it started when I was using google maps and deactivated the wifi (intermitent connection). Google maps then asked me what connection to use. I picked "internet". After that, when I tried to use it again it would fail to start. I tried what other people here suggested (turning on the wifi before starting the app) and it worked. I wonder why the fix hasn´t worked for others...
Maybe the app tries to connect through either wifi or cellular internet (depending on what it got locked into somehow?) without starting the service... Perhaps if you could through other app establish a cellular data connection and then start google maps... After I did the trick of connecting to wifi first I haven´t had to do it again, google maps is behaving as it used to. I have an n8 with Belle btw. Good luck! Google maps is really useful ![]()

The problem with google maps not starting on my N8 is not caused by the same bug that enabling wifi works around.
Don't worry, I'll keep hacking away with other techniques.
Thanks tho ![]()

Fixed the problem with Google Maps on my N8 last night by doing a format, hard reset and firmware reinstall via Nokia Software Updater.
This also fixed the problem I was having with Nokia Trailers, Nokia Drop and Maps voice guidance via bluetooth to the car stereo.
Happy days!

Hi guys,
Thank you for your feedback. We have escalated this issue on our side and see if there is anything we can do.
Meanwhile, please remember that Google Maps is a third party application developed by Google, so if you have problems with the application, we would recommend that you contact them directly.
Kind regards,
Puigchild

For those people still can't get Google map to work on Belle after the Wifi trick, a hard reset finally fixed mine! (A soft reset did not fix mine, but you should try it first.) Yea, it's a pain in the butt having to reinstall some apps and reconfigure preferences. But my phone also runs smoother and the battery lasts longer, as least it seems. I still need to turn on Wifi for Google map to start.
Detailed steps:
Enjoy!
