i take it this means they know about and have this update and are just awaiting official release.

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

As I read what you have posted, it could seem that they do know about Belle and may/could be preparing for its release; hopefully to avoid the mess the Anna update ended up in.

BUT - Telstra, although being the largest network provider here in Australia, are renowned for either cocking things up completely or just ignoring things until people speak loud enough. It would NOT surprise me if Telstra really don't know anything about the Belle update, and when it is released worldwide, it would definately not surprise me if Telstra customers are amoung the last to receive the update yet again.

Here's hoping that I am wrong and that Telstra have learned a lesson in software updating (although, if you check the smartphone software update page by Telstra, its last refresh was the 23rd of November last year and still shows a 'prediction' that Anna will be available in November). Top effort by Telstra eh??? Lets look on the bright side and give Telstra a chance.......

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

like who really wants the lumia 800, honestly if you want a lumia style phone you really should hang out for the equalivant of the lumia 900, at least it does 4G and has the dual camera. Now if only they would produce that for the rest of the world instead of just the US

Read it literally, only read the first line. and remember that vodaphone has said similar things. To me this means that telstra are waiting for nokia but nokia is not supplying it. It seems to me that the carriers are ready and willing to test it and get it out, but nokia are not.

So Telstra and others like us will just be left hanging, with in some cases handset that havent even been on the market here for 12 months.

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

I read it as "Nokia will not release the firmware to the carriers or the un-branded phones until after the Lumia 800 has been released".

Belle is seen as competition to Lumia sales within Nokia. People who upgrade to Belle will be less likely to join the initial rush to buy a Lumia due to the fact MS have just released all the MS apps for Belle, and Belle has ironed out some of the issues that might have encouraged people to 'upgrade'.

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

having just spoke to nokia customer care. who have been advised that "due to technical constraints, Nokia Belle will not be released to australia" this decision was made by the marketing department.!!!!

SO We wont be getting as Nokia has decided not to supply it.

Those Apps are only for belle handsets and they are what I have been waiting for.

Talk about being let down. it has really ticked me off.

Sorry to hear that you guys won't be getting Belle (as opposed to just a longer wait). I think it's very strange, but then with the Lumia 800 going your way soon, I can see how some marketing magic (or not) has happened. They will want everyone on S^3 and Anna to just think, 'Oh well, might as well get that sexy new Lumia then.' I wonder how many of you Aussies actually will though. You can't kick someone in the nuts and then say, give us a hand, mate. Lame.

Nokias: 232, 3210, 3330, 6230, 6101, 6021, 6126, E75, E73, N900, N8, E6, E7, N9. There's a Samsung in there somewhere too, but...we don't talk about that.

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

In Australia I'm pretty sure most people upgrade their handsets when their contract is up or wait till something comes along.  If Lumia is released most users will look at it as an alternative when they re-sign.  So not releasing Belle because a few diehard N8 fans like two year old hardwear doesn't make sense.

Hi Andy232, hope you had a good christmas and a happy new year. I know what you mean, the lumia is sexy, but i would never go to the 800, it has less features than many other phones. Now 900 might just cut it out here. I use the video conferencing already, so i would never go for a phone that doesnt have it like the 800, The 900 has it and has 4g as well, and the larger screen size. My eye sight is getting worse  so no way would i want a smaller screen like the 800 compared to what i currently have.

So far Nokia have only listed it as some sort of technical constraint. Unfotrunately i fear this will be my last Nokia, I have had nokia phones for something like 14 years now, each lasting about 2 years before i upgrade. I have always enjoy my nokia phones, there reliablilty, there ease of use and the features. I fear in about another year (this model is not even a year old in australia), i will upgrade, i dont know what to yet, but i dont think it wont be Nokia, Reliablilty is great but if we are unable to rely on reasonable support then there is no use in buying a product that you throw away within its warranty period.

As it is only the major carriers out here now only stock the N9 and some will shortly stock the lumia, its only the little phone shops that sell any other nokia phones. So the carriers are showing Nokia that they need to pick up things, but somehow they arent getting the message.

This is not just about N8's. The E7 was only released out here last year. I bought it the day after it was officially released in Australia, So my phone is not even a year old. Lets make this very blunt. The lumia 800 lacks features, reliablity, try reading the posts about the 800 and just take note of how many people complain about the battery life. Some people think the N8 battery life after anna was shocking, the Lumia 800 is worst. It has a smaller screen, doesnt have the extra camera, and is missing so many things its not funny.

The lumia 900 comes close to an E7. the 900  only advantage over an E7 is that it is capable of 4G, however this phone currently is scheduled only for the US market. So why would anyone out here want to buy something that is less than what they have.

Even your 2 old hardware in the N8 has a 12mp camera, the lumia 800 is only 8Mp. Sorry but the lumia 800 is a backwards step compared to the phones we already have.

If nokia was serious about sales, then they would be releasing a phone capable of 4G. Instead according to you they want to push us to something of less features, that is technically no better than some hardware of 3-4years ago, with the exception of a faster processor.

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

don't know if you guys saw this too..

Update available = Nokia Belle update has been published

Waiting for approval = Nokia Belle has been submitted for operator and/or local review

Software under creation = Nokia Belle is currently being created by Nokia

Nokia Belle not available = Nokia Belle will not be launched for this product code and/or country

well. that's it for nokia from me. all those promises and waiting. it all comes back to making money and hell no i'm getting a wp7

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

Imagine my predicament  - I have an unbranded C7 which was successfully updated to Belle last night and an AU Vodafone N8 with just the Anna update! Irony is that the C7 work better on the Vodafone network than the N8 ever did. So I have no idea what **bleep**ing technical constraints Nokia are claiming as I can see only benefit.

I am going down the unofficial path of updating my N8.

But one thing is for sure.. Nokia get stuffed. This is the last time I get shafted royally!

Re: Belle & Telstra Australia

Apparently New Zealand, at the beginning of the roll-out also had "Nokia Belle not available" but now it's showing "Software in creation." Maybe this could be seen as a good thing for Australia to get the update soon. HOPEFULLY.

Hey mate, you know it might not be all that bad that Oz aren't getting the update. Sure, you guys *should* be getting it, and Nokia's decision to cut you out is wrong IMO, but here's a couple of things that might actually make you wipe the sweat off your brow and say Phew!

Firstly, ALL of my apps on my E7 that I had paid for and downloaded from both the Ovi Store and from Beta Labs (obvi these were free) vanished. All my little tweaks and settings like my Rolling Stones ringtone, gone. Now I'm not too upset by that, because I'm sure they can - in time - be replaced. That's just a bit annoying. Especially seeing as Angry Birds takes about 10- 15 minues just install!!

But something more serious is battery life. I'm not going to post yet another 'Belle-battery' thread here, but you can see for yourself, plenty of folks are complaining about it, namely E7 users. My battery life went from all day yesterday, to update with Belle, and by 4pm today I was down to petrol fumes in the tank. Not good. My wifi was off, in fact everything was off except the 'Big Clock' on the lock screen. So that's a worry.

Also, some of those widgets aren't the best. The calendar widget has gone from Anna showing the next 3, to Belle showing the next ONE. Daft. The email widget is good as you can scroll through direct on the homescreen, but all those widgets are so big! No wonder you need 6 homescreens!

In a nutshell, to be really honest, (and I know I'm gonna sound like a loon here) I was better off with Anna. Belle is good in some areas (the pull down thingy is good) but in other areas it doesn't feel quite right and doesn't have a Nokia look about it. Daft I know, but now I've updated, I kinda wish I hadn't.

Good job my main phone is my beautiful, perfect, love-of-my-life N9. I know they're all the rage in Oz, so my advice would be to ditch Symbian and go with an N9. It is by far the best phone I've ever seen and now own. It's top dog. Belle can bu99er off for all I care!!

Nokias: 232, 3210, 3330, 6230, 6101, 6021, 6126, E75, E73, N900, N8, E6, E7, N9. There's a Samsung in there somewhere too, but...we don't talk about that.
