E70 betas SE 990i because of the price, and SE 990i doesn't support Arabic and other languages like Nokia does.

Nokia is smarter than poor SE

ilaril, I have no info on code 0537093, which probably means it's either a network/operator branded or APAC version of the E70.

I only have some codes that relate to mostly EURO/EMEA models.

Interesting.. All these phones (like mine) is bought from Finland, directly from the authorized dealer. Phones are not SIM-locked or anything like that. Maybe that's the problem why NSU doesn't have any updates to us.

So all I can do is wait, I quess.

If you have read one of the other threads on this website you will note that back in September my E70 was bricked by NSU. After 11 weeks away with Nokia (and the installation of a new chip) it came back with the v1 software. The local service centre then added v2, but the phone now thinks it has a German keyboard (qwertz rather than qwerty).

I've just read this thread and discovered that the product code on the label does not match the product code as revealed in the temporary NSU installation file. This may explain the problems.

Label on phone:

0531051 (which I believe is linked to Vodafone UK)


Label in temp file:

Product Type RM-10 Code: 0526204


As you can see, these numbers are not the same. Nokia's website reports the first has no software available, and the second has 2.0618.07.10 available (which I have). All I need to do now is determine whether this product number is the code for a German phone, as this would explain why my phone now thinks it has a German keyboard attached. Ray_s, if you can shed any light on this, it would be great!

Mark, E70 code 0526204 = CUSTOM TR EURO-C.

I would hazard a guess that this is the cause of your problems.

As v2.x isn't available for your branded device as far as I know and as you cannot downgrade, I would suggest you return it for warranty replacement.

Thanks Ray, looks like everything is fitting into place. Given that neither myself nor the local repair shop has the facility to change the product code, it must have been done by Nokia UK when they had the phone for 11 weeks. They told me they had to change one of the components on the circuit board following the earlier bricking by NSU, so they must have put a German component in, and not set the code back to being English.

Back in December I wrote a letter to Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo (CEO) explaining all this, and explaining that Nokia UK seemed incapable of resolving the situation. Additionally, the 64MB memory card had not been returned and the push to talk button had had a leg snapped off (so it kept falling out). My local repair centre gave me one of their 64MB cards, and they have just fixed the push to talk button themselves (Nokia UK had the phone a further 3 weeks and failed to fix this button, when that was the only reason the phone had been returned).

Once the software is fixed I will be happy, though the local shop will be short of a memory card.

Nokia UK left a message on my voicemail a few days ago in response to my escalation to Finland, but I was waiting a few days before contacting them because I thought v3 was about to come out. The repair shop in Cambridge said that the keyboard might fix itself with a newer version, so we were waiting for that.

I think I will make some enquiries again with Nokia UK...
