Hi, Nokia software updater found the new firmare 510.21.009 for my Nokia E71.
Does anyone know if it works fine? Does it have any bug like the v. 500 call delay or abnormal battery consumption or clock/calendars errors etc.?

Hello!
Hi, Nokia software updater found the new firmare 510.21.009 for my Nokia E71.Does anyone know if it works fine? Does it have any bug like the v. 500 call delay or abnormal battery consumption or clock/calendars errors etc.?
I can NOT recommend this software update. It basically bricked my E71. :-(
The firmware 510.21.009 introduces severe stability problems with the USB connection to the PC. Problems start immediately during software update. Part of the software is a reset and installation of some support programs on the phone. That's the first that fails.
With 510.21.009 on the phone, Ovi Suite and Nokia Software Updater (NSU) fail to re-install the firmware cleanly because the connection is lost after some seconds. Chances are that you will be stuck with 510.21.009 forever as it doesn't allow any up- or downgrade.
If 510.21.009 was a good firmware, that wouldn't be a big problem because it might be one of the last E71 updates anyway. But 510.21.009 also introduces a battery consumption problem. Previously (firmware 500.21.009) the stand-by time was about 4-7 days (battery is about 2 years old), now it is about 1-2 days maximum. And if you use the phone during the day (phone calls, web browsing etc), the battery will hardly last until evening.
With the previous firmware 500.21.009 the E71 was an excellent phone. I've never had any trouble with firmware updates, so there was no reason to reject the offer when Ovi Suite asked me to update to 510.21.009.
Now, the E71 is unusable. I have to buy a new phone. I would like to stay with Nokia if they already had some good Windows 7 phones, but I will not spend hundreds of Euros to buy a Symbian-based phone these days because we all know this platform is dead.
Stay away from firmware 510.21.009 for your E71!

i agree with you.
i have problems with mail attachements, the mail app crashes 3 out of 4.
Nokia is making **bleep**.
next phone will be samsung(bada or android) but no more symbian.

I have Nokia E71 and i did update to 510.21.009 from ovi Pc suite.
I have a problem with the buttons(from time to time the button from up-left keyboard, the button 3,6,9 and note button. not working)
It's possible it not working because i did update to this version?

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I have the 410 and I think I will keep it.
Do you think there will be a new update after 510?

Yes, i have it installed in my e71 and works fine.
just randomly hangs for a while in some menus but that issue happens also in previous versions.

android have severe problems about battery consumption.
I have a sony ericsson x10 mini pro and i have to refill the battery almost everyday. the mobile phone is only 6 months old and all my friends that have the same phone have the same problem.

there's an upper version over 510. That version is 6xx.
you must modify a file in the memory of your e71 to get that upgrade... and i think that is the latest.
2011-07-29 18:19
i didn't experienced that problems and i have the same version... perhaps you should reinstall your firmware.

Up in this thread, user Stephane86 wrote that "quickoffice doesnt lauch for first time. in order to lauch it, a .doc file must be opened"... you could try it..

Yes, I've upgraded to 510.21.009. No problems so far as mentioned by others. And QuickOffice will not launch until you have opened a word doc, and it will ask for registration information.

Hallo!
What I definitely complain about:
The "Endomondo" software - version "4.00(9)" originally installed from OVI.com - DOESN'T EVEN START with the E71 firmware 510.21.009 !
Maybe someone could help me?
Best regards,
Peter.
