Is it true that there is no FM radio in lumia 920 or other windows 8 nokia phone? If yes what could be other alternates

Yes..Its true that there is NO FM Radio on Nokia Lumia 920. There are Internet Radio applications like Tuneln Radio that you may use. No doubt it will require a Data connection and an unlimited Data plan to not incur heavy cost..but no other way ..

FM radio is part of the hardware of the 920, but due to the Windows Phone 8 platform, its functionaltiy has not been enabled. You can always leave a feature suggestion with Microsoft directly:
