Hello I had the same problem after I installed the software on the E71.
I found accidental unlock code is "qwerty", at least to my phone
Thanks

I've got the same problem,
I wanted to clear everything on it so I re-installed the firmware. after doing so I get the request for the lock code on startup.
the 112 trick works which is great, but I can't find the older ovi suite to attempt re-installing again to make the problem go away.
found instructions and tried the hard reset, but the problem still exists
(hold down green, * and 3 keys while booting for hard reset, this will install the origional firmware)
what is the difference between the
pin code
pin2 code
and the
lock code?
(all three are under tools -> settings -> general -> security -> phone and SIM card)
found I was able to change the pin code, but not the other two.
any way to find the older ovi suite? seems I can only find the newer nokia suite now.
(though I'm wondering why re-installing it from one and not the other works)
while playing around trying to fix this, it suddenly locked up and started asking for the PUK code which I was fortunatly able to find.
I've tried all the other sugestions for the lock code: qwerty rtyfg, 0000, 00000. no luck with those.
I'm stumped now.

I found a working copy of Ovi Suite 2.1.1.1 here > Downseeker Drivers but it didn't help. It says there are no updates available for my phone, but doesn't show any option to reinstall the current version.
My E71 is unlocked but Vodafone branded, running version 410.21.010.
Vodafone gave me the unlock code, so any sim works now, but after doing a factory reset (holding down the green key and 3 and * while booting up) it now asks for the lock code every time I restart it.
12345 doesn't work, rtyufg, qwerty, 00000, 11111 all fail too.
The only way I've found to get past the lock code request is to dial 112 and hang up as soon as it tries to contact emergency services. I thought this suggestion was a con when I first saw it, but it makes sense because it bypasses the lock in emergencies.
I've also tried to reset the lock code using NSSpro (which says the code is already set to 12345), but that didn't work because it would put the phone into "test mode" ready to reset the code, but then it would lose the connection to the phone, and I'd have to pull the battery out to get the phone to shut down.
This thread has been going for 3 years now, has anyone worked out why this problem occurs yet?
EDIT:
Also, thanks to all who have helped me get this far with this problem.

I too have just experienced this problem after having to reload the operating system on my E71, under the direction of the Nokia support centre. When I came to restart the phone the lock code was asked for at which point the Nokia support person (in S E Asia) told me there was nothing that could be done except take the phone for "flashing" at a Nokia Care Centre. This is a pain as from bitter exprience it takes days to restore your data and then get the applications I have added back and running again, so I resist this solution.
Thanks to this forum I discovered the 112 emergency call technique, which I use every day now to open the phone, but this is still very annoying as the problem is caused by Nokia(or its suppliers) and no solution seems to be offered.
All I and others need now is a clue as to "what is the lock code that this faulty software has put in the phone?" There is a code in there, which if known we can use to allow us to change it to a known code - at which point we can use the built in logic for turning off the requirement to enter a lock code every day (I use a Pin Code anyway so don't need a Lock Code too.
So please Nokia or anyone what codes does this faulty software put in. We know it is not the standard defaults (00000, 12345, qwert, rtyfg...), the settings process indicates it is 5 characters but what are they, or what might they be. I am happy to try a few options, but not 99,999 option or billions if we include alpha characters too!!!
Can the Nokia software experts please find the answer and save us all a lot of trouble.

112 is OK but we need permanent solution

If you never put password on your phone for phones E class N or any other newer model this is nokia failure cos of corrupted pm file. The only perm solution is to enter test mode and full reset prone with software. If they charge you for this you should sue nokia.

I know this is a few years on, however the process described to unlock the phone (again, after a firmware update) using the emergency number was a "life saver". I had backed up prior to update but couldn't restore due to lock code problem.
I took the phone to a "care" centre where they wanted £30 to unlock as was out of warranty...not impressed.
Anyway I will be upgrading phones but needed to recover info from this one, so many thanks for knowing how to unlock...legally !?
I subsequently could restore!
Cheers
