Nokia 5800 still can't get v40 firmware

Hi

I've gotta Nokia 5800 RM-356 with a product code of 0579275.

The model behind the battery also says its a 5800d-1

I've seen all the awesome videos of the new features that v40 and 50 have introduced to the 5800 and am sad that i'm still stuck on v30 =(

My carrier is optus whom I contacted and they said it was actually on nokia's end i should be talking to for the firmware update.

If anyone can help be much appreciated!

Nokia care centre may update for you .

Looks more like its the provider at fault   phone is OPTUS Australia -AU   cannot see at this point in time since the update of V4 why Nokia would be hanging on to one product version .

Re: Nokia 5800 still can't get v40 firmware

Reasons why a phone cannot update:

1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.

2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.

3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

Re: Nokia 5800 still can't get v40 firmware

I have the same problem atm.  I bought my phone through Optus back in February this year and have been trying to get a straight answer from either Optus or Nokia why i couldn't update to firmware v40.  If you do get an answer please update as I'll keep an eye on this discussion.  I've gonna ring up Nokia CareCentre again soon as they told me today it could be a issue with the update not being available on the web but it is still showing the only version available for product code 0579275 is v31.

Re: Nokia 5800 still can't get v40 firmware

If you got the phone from Optus then there's a 99% chance that it has been subjected to branding by Optus. If this is the case then Nokia can do absolutely nothing about it until Optus decide to release the update, which may never happen.

Optus are the people you need to be "pestering" here, not Nokia.

Re: Nokia 5800 still can't get v40 firmware

I have tried to contact both Nokia and Optus and i do realise that it is mostly likely Optus who are causing the problem...however i cannot talk to anyone there cause all they say is they have no control over firmware, its not something they release and i should call NokiaCare.  And yes my phone is branded up with Optus stuff.  I noticed that i have additional information in the custom version area....is there a way i can uninstall this firmware and reinstall the firmware directly from Nokia site or there is no way to this short of trying to debrand my phone which i don't want to do as its still under warranty.

This is par for the course for operators. They lie as a matter of course in order to deflect responsibiity for poor service away from them.

Blaming the manufacturer is sooooo easy, isn't it? Regardless of what customer support is telling you, the responsibility lies squarely on Optus' shoulders for this.

Re: Nokia 5800 still can't get v40 firmware

Latest available software for your device:
Version::  21.0.025

Looks like thats the end of the road for your product code .

Your phone is a Middle East North Africa   AE Ramadan UAE  edition .

You could try asking a Nokia Care Centre if they can  update .
