It's driving me crazy.

I've always had troubles with nokia updates, but this time it's getting ridiculous.

Here's the problem:

I have Nokia 5800XM, RM-356, with firmware: 50.0.005(.217.08[custom firmware]).

Doesn't find any new firmware update(not even 52.x.xxx, so I can't even dream of 60.x.xxx Firmware).

I've tried updating it using the Options>Check for updates in *#0000#, and using a data cable and Nokia Software updater/Nokia suite built in updater. ANd not just once, but dozens of times.

All my attempts end up in disaster: "Your phone is up to date".

Can I "hard upgrade" my firmware?

(meaning, download a file, upload to phone and run it)

If so, how? Where to get the update from?

My provider is Vodafone Romania. I have a really old sim(14 years old...), but I'm sure it has nothing to do with my problem, since I've tried updating my firmware with a new sim, and same result was encountered.

Hi diescreamie,

Have you called Vodafone Romania to confirm that the update has been made available for that network. As Nokia send firmware updates out for approval from the operators, and when they approve this, then the users from the operator will recieve and see the update.

First of all thank you for your reply.

I've just sent an email to my service provider.

I should get an answer in a few hours.

In the meanwhile, an idea popped into my brilliant mind:

-what if I simply swap my sim with an other one(from an other provider)?

Just to update my phone's software.

What uncompatibilities would this result?
I'm guessing that some horoscope or different minor services would stop working(but I'm considering that stuff spam anyway, so it won't affect me).

I don't care about any other service except voice.

If the phone is Network locked, a SIM from other Operator will not be accepted..

my phone is working just fine with the sim I have. it's vodafone.
The phone was purchased from orange.

the thing is there are no other problems i'm encountering. just this firmware update.

And one more question:

what if I simply try to update my phone while inside it is an orange sim card, and on a later time replace it with my regular vodafone sim?
In theory this should work, right?

The Sim shouldn't make a difference, it's all based on the product code of the phone (which is determined from the point of sale).

i am reviving this old topic because i am encountering the same problems.

can't update beyond fw: 50.0.005. Can't Nokia just give us an answer or better yet a solution?

my phone was not dependent on any of the networks so that is not the problem. can't update it via NSU nor via OTA...any help?
