great news! Updates to Windows Phone 7.8 have started today and will be rolling out over the coming weeks for Nokia Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800 and 900.

With the update you will get a host of exciting new personalization features, such as the ability to resize your tiles, new lock screen options, and more theme colors. After the notification pops up on your phone screen, simply connect your phone with a compatible USB cable to your computer via Zune for PC, or the Windows Phone app for Mac and follow the on-screen instructions.

We know that you are excited to get the update but please stay patient, updates for Nokia Lumia range are always released gradually (to ensure that quality and performance requirements are met), and it can take up to three weeks for the update to become available for everyone. To make sure you don’t miss out on the notification, check on your phone that under Settings > Phone Update > “Notify me when new updates are found” is enabled.

On our global Software Update page (only in English), you can also  check what is the latest version of software available for your phone. Pick your region, look for your country and variant/operator, and you will be able to check if the latest version mentioned in the table is higher than what is currently on your phone. If yes, you will be receiving the update by the end of February. If not, don’t lose hope yet as we will be launching some updates later on, subject to operator testing and approval. Please contact your operator for more information.

After the update, remember to also to check Nokia Collection in Marketplace for new or updated Nokia apps, such as Bluetooth share (availability of the apps may vary between regions.)

I had got 7.8 on my 710 after a repair from Nokia care. My firmware no. ends with .12460. Will I miss out on any feature being made available via Zune?

710's product page still shows .12121 as the latest firmware which obviously is outdated now. Is .12460 the latest firmware for 710?

Updated my lumia 800 last night, at last!!!! :-)The start screen is a joy. My new lower output for the headphones is not.
What went wrong?
I use my phone all day streaming music at work, and it is connected to a amplifier. Now I have to turn the amps volume to max to even get close to 60% of the volume I usually listen to.
Of course my phone is turned up max to 30.
As I searched some other forums I saw a lot of other people with the same problem of lacking decent volume.
Please do something about this.

Hi,

Windows phone 7.8 is still not available. When i check for update, it only says that your version is up-to-date: current software version: 7.10 (8773).

There are some force update tutorials, but its all wastage of time.

What to do???

Thanks for the good news. I hope it will be available soon, I had been waiting since Oct'12 when Windows phone 7.8 was launched by Microsoft. Maybe a few days more. Thanks once again. Cheers

Do I have actually have to go through such tedious steps to get an update ? I mean shouldn't this be seamless.. I am not sure why few thousand updates here in there locally (if you breakdown by country) should be such a time consuming activity for a company the scale of Nokia or Microsoft or both combined ? This has been in the works for at least an year..

Its not working..

I disconnected the internet and after few seconds it says

"Can't check for updates right now. Please try again later.

We couldn't connect to the update service. Disconnect and reconnect your phone, make sure your computer has as internet connection, then try installing the update again.

Yes the disconnect trick worked for me...I tried before but forgot to put the phone in flight mode, make sure you do that.

It does - honest! It took me probably a dozen attempts to get it to work.  And for me the delay before disabling my NIC was more like 6 seconds.  Guess you've got to hit the sweetspot(!)

I have a Nokia Lumia 800 phone. I am from Georgia and Georgian characters (utf8/sylfaen) are not displayed correctly (squares are shown instead).

I have not received a notofication about this update yet, but I would be thankful if you could tell me if this "upcoming" update will solve my issues regarding Georgian characters, please.

Can you also please tell me why the page you link to says the latest version for 3UK is 1600.xxxx whatever but mine's on 1750.0805.8773.12220
