It happened with v10 to v11 too for some people so it may happen again when people update to v20.

That was me, and it's still not fixed. Use OVI Suite, don't rely on PC Suite to do back-ups - it screwed me up at V11 and it's still not fixed!

Did I mention it's still not fixed? Nokia have had my phone longer than I have. Glad I'm paying £30 a month for the pleasure of using my 7 year old non-smart phone!

Re: V11 > V12 Via Fota = No WiFi

Still very dissapointed with this, my colleague at work looked into this and apparently the 12.0.026 update is unofficial and shouldn't have been available by Nokia :smileymad:

If you haven't updated I wouldn't bother - I've lost my internet, wifi - email is working but extremely slow... last night where there is no internet my facebook widget was just sending constant error alerts to my phone so I had to set them to work offline mode..

Gutted!

Can you ask your colleague to clarify that please?  If it wasn't official it would not be available to the end user through FOTA/NSU.

It's been available in several select countries for a few weeks now, generally the countries that didn't get 12.0.024.

Re: V11 > V12 Via Fota = No WiFi

The fact of the matter is, it's an update which has done more harm than good... in my situation the only upside to the update is that some of the menus open slightly quicker.. and that's about it....

Internet - nope

Wifi - nope

Email - just about...

Battery life is appauling now, I only text / make a few calls a day and it's needed to be charged once a night!

The only way for me to update or make any future changes will have to be done via PC Suite as I can't do fook in regards to connectivity bar the basic calls / texts and just about email...

I work in IT Support - when our developers have developed a new system or patch/update it's tested throughout and then finally released... (even though small minor bugs/issues do still occur) but where this update has literally turned my mobile into a remote device (can't connect to anything) unless I connect it to my laptop (that might not even work)  - that's half the reason I chose the N97 for the features and functionality which now I don't have I might aswell of purchased the Nokia 1100!!!

That doesn't answer the question, on what grounds did your colleague declare it to be unofficial?  I'm curious as to why someone would think an unofficial update is being supplied through official methods?

There's no doubt that the update is doing harm to some people, myself included (until I restored my settings backup).

Re: V11 > V12 Via Fota = No WiFi

I had no wifi or operator access points when I updated ota restored my settings with no luck. I had to do a complete factory restore before I got them back. Didn’t have 1 problem on my old n95

Re: V11 > V12 Via Fota = No WiFi

The correct update for N97 RM-505 VodaFone UK 0585262, 0588469, is 12.0.26, and for the Euro 0570817, 0576350 its 12.0.24. I have not found any other updates for UK N97's.

The question is, is it the update, method of update, or settings during update, or a combination of these that creates the problem. I suspect it’s the FOTA update method creating a conflict, due to using the Wlan with a certain combination of settings whilst updating. In theory, if possible, a FULL update using NSU should fix problems, if not, than a reflash of firmware at a Nokia Care point should resolve any issues. If this doesn’t than the Wlan hardware has failed.

The solution to potential WiFi problems seems to be through creating a backup, preferably through OVI suite, before updating.
