when will n95 reach its potential?

When is Nokia going to give us N95 owners a patch that is stable and allow us to use the hardware/ software to its potential?
Its getting kind of frustrating reseting the phone with random crashes and sluggish responses with a broken camera.

What is the penciled in time frame/ date for a patch?

Re: when will n95 reach its potential?

Which firmware version are you in?
If you are in latest version, then well it might take 4-5 FW upgrade to give the phones full potentiallity. N72, from series 60 2nd edition with FP3 is quite good and stable. The phones like 6630, 6680 etc are stable to. But they took such number of FWs.
What is broken about your camera? Did you show it nokia repair?:smileysad:

Patch/sw upgrade is not announced as upcoming, it is sometimes assumed. Usually it takes 3 months for SW upgrade announcement for a product, sometimes even more.:smileysad:

Re: when will n95 reach its potential?

Im on v11.0.026, as for the upgrade thats the up to date version where i am.

The zoom on the camera is cooked, you try to zoom on anything and the picture starts to degrade - and thats with out using digital zoom!

You have to constantly reset the settings for sharpness of the picture as it keeps selecting hard as soon as you touch anything.

The sequence mode wont work on burst consistantly, it crashes out on a regular basis, and also i swear the time interval between shoots is slower than that of my N73.

Macro lense dont like me getting too close to an object- thats funny because i thought it was for close ups? Again my N73 serves me better here.

Initiating the camera can take up to 30 seconds before its useable as i just get a blank screen while its loading in.

I sometimes get random lock ups that mean i have to remove the battery.

* All these camera issues can be resolved with a stable update im sure, there are other issues still though.

Considering the phone is ment to be worth £500 i dont find the build quality on the screen/ slider that good for £500!

The GPS support for maps etc as we have heard repeatedly is quite flaky.

When i go to veiw a picture if its 5mp i cant get more than a 50% ratio increase!

Trying to veiw movies will 50% of the time leave me with a blank screen but sound.

Trying to create a muvee i get the error message out of memory.

Trying to surf the net i get random crashes due to the 'out of memory' message.

I get random out of memory messages for most things.

* please not as for out of memory, i have a 1gig (700mb free) memory card and over 100mb free on my phone memory!

T-Mobile have kindly sent me a second phone which does exactly the same as the first. These are issues outside their control, they/ myself need Nokia to get a update out thats working and stable. These are not hardware faults bt the software used to run them is faulty and needs a desperate fix.

Its kind of sad and frustrating that my N73 can out do this phone most days, its never let me down and the battery lasts alot longer!

Re: when will n95 reach its potential?

Hello jamie,
first off, thanks for taking my post in your account of consideration.

I am not bound to any particular network I mean I am not into the hassles of locked service. Generally we buy the SIM free versions in our country.

The latest version of SW is 12.00.013 (some claims 12.00.014 is out only for APACS).
I do believe some* glitches are already solved by the mentioned FW.
I guess camera shutter is speed is generally slow which is solved in N95 8GB edition.(!).
And I also guess your unit is more buggy than the others.
Sorry.

From where I learnt, specially for N95, diffrent mobile network have different FW to keep them. You can contract T-mobile again to tell about the ages old 12.00.013.

Again camera quality sometimes be subjective. Poor macro is pathetic:smileysad:.

Re: when will n95 reach its potential?

Well when i plug my phone in to update the software its still telling me i have the up to date software with 11.0.026!
So im guessing its not available to me yet which sucks when you think about the fact that my money is as good as the next persons?

The interesting thing with the N95 8gig is by the looks of it it dont have 8gig on board it can handle up to 8gig on flash drive, so im sure it will have a beefer on board memory but its still going to be working on the same OS build.
If it is on the same S60 OS build then why cant the ordinary N95 owners have the upgrade available to them?

The camera and so on will be the same as the standard N95 by the looks of the specs so if they can manage to solve the problems standard N95 users have, then again why cant this be made available to us as well?
These issues are like i mentioned products of unstable/ faulty software that controls the hardware, if its software it can be changed, more so looking at it if they are rolling out MKII and its basicly the same phone just different fascia/ skin.

I might be willing to swallow a problem or 2 but when i start cataloguing these its quite a few, and i know im not alone you can google countless places that are saying the same thing.

Nokia could at least have the decency to address the users and let us know 1) the problems are recognised and being addressed 2) the target date for the patch with be xx/xx/xxxx , rather than leave us like like mushrooms keot in the dark.

Re: when will n95 reach its potential?

Jamie_e

I am having exactly the same issues with my phone
almost identically to what you have listed out.

I also find it annoying that some people can get hold
of v12 firmware, where my updater still says that I
have the latest version : v11.0.026 !

What’s that all about?

I also loose functionality of the Media button
(to the right of the central button) and can only
get this working again by resetting the phone.

I really love this phone, but all the bugs are
making it a pain to use, with having to reset or
remove the battery every time I need to get it to
work 100%

Lets hope that Nokia can address all these issues and
get an upgrade out that sort all these problems out.

Re: when will n95 reach its potential?

you're stuck to the v11 cos your fone is not debranded/unlocked...once you do that...then it will upgrade to v12.

Peace
