I have found my N97 to use so much power that the battery runs out very fast (within 12 hours standby mode). I have also read from various forums that the N97 battery power "sucks". I have ruled out the possibility of a bad battery and also being constantly online as culprits.
Alas, I found the problem! Many users may have been using a belt holster to store the N97 on the belt. Such a belt holster usually uses magnets to keep its cover closed. I found that whenever there is a magnet placed next to the cover of the 5mp camera (when it is closed) the camera switches on even with the camera cover closed, thus the display screen is automatically turned on. And when the magnet is removed, the N97 returns to its idle state. That's why many users failed to realise that the N97 is wasting power running in camera/video mode while it is in the belt holster, and when the user takes out the N97 he would notice nothing out of the ordinary.
Obviously the camera cover which activates the camera is a magnetic switch. To solve the problem just ensure the N97 has its 5mp camera facing you rather than the outside when it is in the belf holster.

My nokia n97 mini seems to run out of battery very quickly too. I thought maybe this was becuase I use the internet too much and maybe call people too much. I changed a lot of settings and reduced the amount I go online. I also, turn it off during the night and charge it during the day for a couple of hours - as much as i can. However, it still seems to run out within 4-7 hours.
Do you have any suggestions as to what is wrong with the phone? Or is it just a faulty battery?
I dropped it in a bucket of water once in April. But even before then the battery ran out quickly so I don't think it's becuase of that.It has the exact same battery as before too. Do you suggest a new battery or would it just be the same?!
